POSITION SUMMARY
Reporting to the Head of Finance, as the Commercial Finance Business Partner, you will serve as the core financial strategic business partner for end-to-end commercial operations, covering sales, marketing, brand management, commercial excellence, and customer engagement teams. You will oversee financial planning, profitability management, financial analysis, and end-to-end budget governance & control for all commercial businesses. This role bridges finance and commercial leadership, drives data-based business decisions, optimizes commercial resource allocation, and ensures sustainable and profitable business growth.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
End-to-End Budget Management & Control
- Lead the annual commercial budget formulation, review, consolidation and approval process, covering all commercial expense categories including sales field expense, marketing promotion, brand operation, commercial conference & academic promotion, customer incentives, and commercial overhead.
- Establish strict full-cycle budget control mechanisms: track budget execution monthly/quarterly, analyze budget vs. actual variances, drill down root causes of abnormal items, and deliver targeted adjustment suggestions and improvement plans.
- Manage in-year budget adjustments, reviewing all transfer, supplementary and freeze requests to control unauthorized overspending while balancing business needs and cost targets.
Commercial Business Partnership
- Act as the primary financial advisor and strategic partner for commercial senior leadership, supporting brand launch, product lifecycle management, market expansion, channel strategy, and resource investment decisions.
- Conduct in-depth financial analysis — product-level profitability, customer & regional margins, marketing ROI (incl. NPV), and sales discount verification — to identify business risks and growth opportunities.
Financial Forecasting & Long-range Planning
- Own monthly/quarterly/annual rolling forecasts for the commercial business, continuously improving accuracy and dynamically adjusting assumptions for market policy, industry trends, competition and sales rhythm; participate in 3-5 year long-range commercial financial planning, including new product launch budgeting and commercialization/investment feasibility assessment.
P&L Management & Financial Analysis
- Take full ownership of P&L accountability for the US commercial segment: lead regular financial performance reviews, interpret operational and financial fluctuations for senior management, optimize commercial cost structure, and drive cost reduction initiatives to enhance profitability.
Internal Control, Compliance & Process Optimization
- Ensure all commercial financial activities comply with US pharmaceutical industry requirements, corporate financial policies and internal controls; standardize approval processes, reimbursement standards and expense management specifications.
Cross-functional Collaboration & Stakeholder Management
- Support commercial target setting, sales incentive design, and pricing/discount strategy with solid financial data; present budget execution, financial performance and strategic insights to executive leadership in regular review meetings.
Other duties as assigned
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Business Administration or related fields; MBA, CPA, CMA or equivalent certification preferred
- 8 years of progressive experience in finance business partnering, FP&A and commercial financial management, with 5 years in US multinational pharmaceutical or biotech companies
- In-depth understanding of US pharma commercial operations, brand marketing, medical academic promotion, field sales management and industry compliance rules
- Strong financial planning, rolling forecasting, P&L analysis, financial modeling and data analysis skills, with the ability to convert complex data into actionable business recommendations; proficient in ERP (SAP) and budget management systems
COMPETENCIES/CORE SKILLS
- Executive communication skills
- Excellent cross-functional leadership and strategic thinking
- High sensitivity to commercial business logic and financial risks.
