Crypto Fellow

Fortune is seeking a smart, energetic early-career journalist to join our crypto desk for a six-month newsroom fellowship starting in April. The fellow will focus primarily on crypto, digital assets, and the future of finance.

Fellowship candidates must have graduated from undergraduate or graduate school. Previous newsroom experience, such as internships at professional publications and/or significant work at collegiate outlets, is strongly preferred, as is a demonstrated interest in crypto, markets, and business journalism.

As an integral part of Fortune’s crypto team, the fellow will learn by doing: researching, reporting, writing, and producing Fortune Crypto coverage across formats. The fellow will also gain exposure to the workings of a storied, award-winning digital and print business publication and receive close training and feedback from Fortune’s crypto editor and newsroom leaders.

What You’ll Do

• Work primarily with Fortune’s crypto desk, covering digital assets, blockchain technology, market structure, and regulation for Fortune Crypto and related franchises.
• Report and write your own stories—a mix of quick hits, scoops, and in-depth features—and help curate, produce, and package Fortune coverage.
• Pitch original story ideas and take assignments; actively participate in team brainstorms and news meetings.
• Craft explainers, profiles, trend pieces, enterprise stories, social videos, and/or newsletter items that help readers understand key projects, companies, investors, and regulators in the crypto ecosystem.
• Contribute to Fortune’s flagship franchises and newsletters when crypto intersects with the broader business and investing landscape.
• Collaborate with colleagues across markets, tech, and finance desks to cover how crypto and blockchain are reshaping Wall Street, Silicon Valley, and global markets.
• Work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, highly news-driven environment.
• Ensure coverage reflects a diversity of ideas, perspectives, and voices, and uphold Fortune’s standards of rigor, accuracy, and fairness in every story.

• Deeply curious about crypto, digital assets, and financial markets, and eager to cover the space with a clear-eyed, skeptical, and non-hype-driven approach.
• Thrive on economics and business news, or demonstrate strong interest, enthusiasm, and willingness to learn these topics quickly.
• Consume a wide range of news sources—crypto-native and mainstream alike—and have sharp instincts for what matters most to Fortune’s business audience.
• For writing-focused candidates: write clean, accurate, insightful copy on deadline, with a knack for translating technical concepts into plain English.
• Ambitious, detail-oriented, deadline-driven, able to juggle multiple stories at once, quick to learn, and brimming with fresh ideas.
• Have a growth mindset and welcome feedback as a tool to sharpen your reporting, writing, and news judgment.

This fellowship is based in New York City and requires five days per week in the office.

Pay Rate: $30/hour. Fortune fellows work 35 hours per week, Monday through Friday or Wednesday through Sunday (excluding company holidays).
