WHO ARE WE?

With over 40,000 units completed, Fortune-Johnson is the premier contractor for building multifamily projects in the Southeast and Mid-Atlantic. Our construction projects showcase a wide range of product types, including garden-style apartments, retirement communities, student housing, high-density, and mixed-use developments. Fortune-Johnson takes pride in our industry-leading record of completing assignments on time and within budget.

Fortune-Johnson is seeking a Construction Technology Manager to oversee the day-to-day execution and management of our technology environment while helping guide longer-term technology direction. This is a player–coach role that blends hands-on IT work with people leadership, prioritization, and operational oversight.

Primary Job Responsibilities:

The Construction Technology Manager will be the direct manager of the IT Specialist and will also lead an offshore technology and analytics team supporting PowerBI and Procore Analytics. This role ensures technology work gets done, gets done in the right order, and supports the real needs of the business. While this position contributes to strategy and planning, its primary responsibility is execution, accountability, and follow-through.

  • Technology Operations & Execution
    • Ensure the stability, reliability, and security of Fortune-Johnson’s technology environment.
    • Perform hands-on IT work as needed, including troubleshooting, system administration, and project support.
    • Oversee daily IT operations, balancing urgent support needs with planned initiatives.
    • Maintain documentation for systems, processes, and standards.
  • People Leadership & Accountability
    • Serve as the direct manager of the IT Specialist, with explicit responsibility for: prioritization of work and ticket backlog health, response times and service quality, task completion and follow-through, establishing clear daily and weekly accountability rhythms
    • Provide coaching, direction, and performance feedback to ensure consistent execution.
  • Lead and manage an offshore technology and analytics team, focusing on:
    • Delivery management
    • Clear priorities and timelines
    • Quality and consistency of outputs
    • Ongoing communication and coordination
    • Ensure work across internal and offshore teams is aligned and not duplicative.
  • Technology Budgeting & Vendor Management
    • Track and manage technology-related software and hardware expenses.
    • Own software renewals, licensing coordination, and vendor relationships.
    • Prepare budget recommendations, cost analyses, and investment proposals for leadership approval.
    • Execute purchasing and renewals within established approval guardrails.
    • Participate in vendor reviews and help ensure Fortune-Johnson is receiving strong value for its technology investments.
  • Systems, Tools, & Analytics Oversight
    • Oversee and help maximize the effectiveness of key platforms such as Procore, Microsoft 365, Box, and related construction and business systems.
    • Provide oversight and coordination for PowerBI and Procore Analytics efforts, focusing on outcomes rather than hands-on dashboard development.
    • Partner with stakeholders to ensure technology tools support operational efficiency and decision-making.
  • Strategy Support & Continuous Improvement
    • Support the Director of Technology & Training in shaping and executing technology priorities.
    • Identify opportunities to improve workflows, automation, and system integration.
    • Provide practical input on technology decisions based on real operational constraints and user needs.
    • Help build scalable processes as the company grows and technology demands increase.
  • Time Allocation (Approximate)
    • 50% – People management, prioritization, vendor coordination, and oversight
    • 35% – Hands-on IT work and operational execution
    • 15% – Analytics oversight, system improvement, and forward-looking initiatives
Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Construction Management, or related field preferred (equivalent experience considered).
  • 3–7 years of experience in IT support, systems administration, or technology operations.
  • Prior experience managing people strongly preferred.
  • Experience working with offshore teams is a plus.
  • Strong understanding of IT infrastructure, cybersecurity fundamentals, and modern business
  • Familiarity with construction-industry platforms is highly preferred.
  • Comfortable balancing execution with leadership responsibilities.

Competencies:

  • Strong prioritization and follow-through skills
  • Ability to manage people with clarity, consistency, and accountability
  • Practical, execution-focused mindset
  • Clear communicator who can translate technical work into business impact
  • Organized and disciplined in managing competing demands
  • Comfortable operating with direction and guardrails rather than rigid instructions
