Buyer

Summary of Position:

The Buyer is responsible for accurate and timely forecasting and ordering of products to generate maximum revenue and profit. The incumbent will work to ensure day-to-day operations are being met through appropriate purchasing decisions and product management. Additional key duties include working closely with the Management and Business Development teams to provide information about price changes, shortages, delays, and any other product updates related to movement and inventory. 

Responsibilities:

• Manage the purchasing process within established budgetary targets.
• Forecast product needs accurately and develop product pars based on usage reporting and seasonality.
• Build and submit purchase orders in a timely manner through best-in-class buying procedures and ensure the warehouse is continually fully stocked.
• Transport goods in the most efficient way, constantly seeking to reduce costs and increase profitability.
• Maintain accurate purchasing records and organized buying practices to facilitate maximum buying efficiency and cross-training. 
• Follow through on the purchasing process by ensuring the correct storing, rotating, and stocking of the product and inventory adjustments.
• Collaborate with buyers from all Fortune Fish & Gourmet warehouses and businesses, facilitating product transfer and joint purchasing.
• Develop and maintain relationships with vendors.
• Assist vendors’ onboarding process and items submission.
• Proactively communicate with all departments concerning costs, inventory movement, and issues within product lines.
• Assist the inventory team in building new items by furnishing complete product information, ensuring proper item numbers, case sizes, UPCs, and prices are being provided.
• Ensure quality control is being deployed on all orders to determine product quality and to process credits and returns in a timely manner. 
• Analyze and maintain aging reports and product shelf life.
• Work to ensure appropriate product mix is in the portfolio.
• Support the Business Development team in maintaining and updating pricing and margin strategies. 
• Communicate new and discontinued items, changes in product, price changes, and packaging.
• Collaborate with leadership on strategic buys. 
• Exhibit ability to work safely and follow all safety policies and procedures.
• Possess the ability to identify and resolve any purchasing issues quickly.
• Other duties as assigned by the Supervisor.

Minimum Requirements:

• Education - High school diploma or equivalent.
• Experience - One to two years of buying perishable and produce. Experience with seafood, poultry, and meat required. 
• Work ethic - A demonstrated sense of urgency in meeting critical and time-sensitive deadlines.
• Communication - Ability to communicate in English.
• Hours - Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including weekends and nights, to meet customer and business needs.
