Fortress Infrastructure, LLC is a growing multi-disciplinary design/build company based in Boulder, CO. We specialize in the design and construction of secure infrastructure for the US Military with primary focus towards OCONUS (outside continental US) locations. As we grow, we will opportunistically pursue CONUS and local projects.
Title: Senior / Design MEP Engineer - Secure Facilities
Role Description:
The MEP Senior or Design Engineer will support the design and implementation of secure technology facilities for the US Military. Facility types include intelligence processing, special program, control rooms, operations centers, and IT equipment rooms. The work is more diverse and interesting than trying to squeeze more coolant through a cabinet of GPUs; plus, the locations are generally better!
This is a full-time, hybrid role based in Boulder, CO. This will be primarily a home office position. We will also meet in person and collaborate (especially at the start). International travel opportunities (approximately 10–15%) including projects in Japan, Korea, Pacific Islands, and Europe.
We are looking for the best fit and are interested in interviewing across a slightly wider experience range than would be typical for a mid-size or larger firm. At the lower experience end, candidates would need to be strong self-starters with motivation for new learning and continuous self-improvement, which we would support.
Responsibilities:
- Design multi-disciplinary tenant improvements for secure facilities. Primary focus on higher technology facilities: tech-heavy conference rooms, control rooms, operation centers, and larger IT equipment rooms (3 - 6 kW per cabinet).
- Design and develop mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) system plans, schematics, process diagrams, sequence of operations, details, and schedules.
- Support project code compliance: NEC, IBC, IPC, IMC, and IFGC
- Conduct design and drafting activities (greater than 50% of daily work).
- Perform engineering calculations including load analysis, equipment sizing, and energy performance evaluations.
- Support submittal preparation (on our part) and submittal review of partner contractors or subcontractors.
- Support bid package preparation, subcontractor selection, and subcontractor inspection / management.
- Perform site surveys internationally
- Expect 10 - 15% International travel (Japan, Korea, Pacific Islands, Europe)
- Support new work efforts with project estimating and proposal writing
- Support list / bill-of-material (LoM or BoM) creating and material management
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Construction, or Architectural Engineering (ABET-accredited preferred)
- EIT Passed (Engineer-in-training)
- 6 to 15 years experience
- AutoCAD Proficiency. Must be able to design and draft simultaneously.
- Some CAD support / delegation provided.
- Ability and willingness to obtain secret security clearance
- U.S. Citizen
Preferred Qualification:
- Professional Engineer (PE)
- Master Electrician or Master Plumber (State level)
- Knowledge of Whole Building Design Guide, UFCs and UFGS
- Facility UPS design competence (80 kW )
- Readily appliable knowledge of specific manufacturer product lines.
- Colorado front-range home office location
