The Opportunity
This position is responsible for processing accurate and timely weekly payroll in a fast-paced, multi-entity environment. The Payroll Specialist will play a key role in maintaining payroll compliance, ensuring data integrity, and supporting the Payroll Manager with payroll administration and related office functions.
The ideal candidate has experience processing high-volume payroll, preferably in a union and construction environment, possesses exceptional organizational skills, and demonstrates a high level of accuracy, confidentiality, and professionalism.
Key Responsibilities
- Process accurate and timely weekly payroll.
- Administer multi-union payroll, ensuring compliance with applicable collective bargaining agreements and company policies.
- Review, audit, and validate employee timecards for accuracy, including job assignments, dates worked, employee information, approvals, and required signatures across multiple companies.
- Verify payroll data, earnings, deductions, and taxes to ensure accurate payroll calculations and compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
- Calculate and process weekly fringe benefit payments based on payroll data and applicable union requirements.
- Process new hires, terminations, wage changes, benefit deductions, and other employee payroll changes in a timely manner.
- Maintain accurate payroll records and prepare payroll reports as requested.
- Respond to employee payroll inquiries professionally and efficiently while maintaining confidentiality.
- Assist the Payroll Manager with payroll administration, reporting, audits, and other departmental projects as needed.
- Support continuous improvement of payroll processes to ensure accuracy, efficiency, and compliance.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 2 years of payroll processing experience, construction industry experience a plus.
- Experience processing multi-union payroll strongly preferred.
- Experience with Miter Payroll or similar payroll software is highly preferred.
- Knowledge of payroll laws, wage and hour regulations, payroll taxes, and union payroll practices.
- Strong attention to detail with excellent analytical and organizational skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office applications.
- Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
