Fortis College is seeking a dynamic Academic Dean to provide support to the students, staff, and faculty.
Reports to: Campus President
Position Summary:
Responsibilities include the overall operation and effectiveness of the education department of the school, including, but not limited to, management and supervision of all faculty (full-time and adjunct), externship coordinators, instructor turn-over, student retention, curriculum review and strategies for the effective dissemination of the curriculum to students to ensure entry-level employability upon graduation. The position would include producing work for new programs, compliance, accreditation needs, or other assignments necessary to fulfill the corporate mission. The person in this position must remain current in industry standards in terms of the relevance of course materials and the development of training instructors in teaching strategies. The Academic Dean sets the standards of educational quality and supports the efforts of the faculty and staff to achieve maximum educational effectiveness. The candidate must qualify to teach in a least one Fortis Baton Rouge Campus program.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- ·Ensure that teaching strategies, lesson plans, and classroom techniques are in place and updated on a regular and continual basis.
- Ensure that all instructors are teaching according to approved lesson plans.
- Ensure that all instructors are motivating students to achieve their highest level of academic and professional proficiency.
- Ensure that all instructors are maintaining accurate and up-to-date documentation as required by the institution.
- Ensure that all equipment is maintained as expected for classroom use and the instructors are maintaining an overall clean classroom environment that supports learning.
- Ensure that all instructors maintain supply inventory as needed and make requisitions in a timely manner to assist with the operation of the laboratory portion of training.
- Ensure that all instructors maintain accurate and consistent up-to-date academic records on each student as directed by the institution.
- Ensure that all instructors utilize the standard measurement of maintaining satisfactory progress as defined by the institution as well as policies defined in the school catalog.
- Advise instructional staff and make recommendations in a constructive manner.
- Conduct departmental meetings regularly.
- Interview and hire prospective instructors.
- Train new instructors on institutional policies and procedures as well as effective teaching techniques and strategies.
- Cooperate with and provide reports to the Campus President and others as requested regarding periodic instructional evaluations.
- Provide instructional staff with motivational materials that will enhance the learning experience within their classrooms.
- Interface with the Career Services Director to ensure that instructors are kept up-to-date on employability of graduates and industry needs and objectives.
- Advise students on attendance and behavioral issues as the need arises.
- Interface with the Campus President about students on academic probation, academic suspension, terminations, and leave of absences.
- Interface with the Campus President with regard to students who are transferring, terminating, graduating or re-entering the school.
- Supervise and manage the externship coordinators and externship programs.
- Assist administrative personnel with any statistical data needed for reports.
- Assist the Financial Planning Department with satisfactory progress reporting.
- Acquire a working knowledge of the various software system in order to enter, correct and analyze data.
- Schedule students and assign instructors with assistance from the Program Directors.
- Follow and maintain all established school policies and procedures.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Maintain regular and reliable attendance.
Skills/Competencies/Qualifications:
- Documented expertise in operations and management of academic affairs and personnel as demonstrated by resume, references, transcripts, certifications, etc.
- Ability to hire, train, and supervise department chairpersons, faculty, and other academic personnel.
- Excellent verbal, written, and computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite and Student Database Management System.
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in the management of proprietary post-secondary school education, public school, or appropriate corporate training is required.
- Must have previous teaching experience and competency necessary to lead and manage curriculum development, educational effectiveness assessment and improvement, and faculty development and performance appraisals. Strong experience in student outcomes, retention strategies, and problem-solving abilities is needed.
- A Bachelor's degree is required, a Master's in Education and/or a Ph.D. preferred.
Certifications and licenses in the relevant area of expertise may be required according to the specific requirements of regulatory agencies.
Classification: Exempt
Work Hours: Minimum of a five-day work week; Evenings required to oversee evening programs.
