Director of Product

Description

Fortem Technologies is seeking a proven, strategic Director of Product to lead the vision, roadmap, and lifecycle of our Sensors & Systems and Command & Control (C2) product portfolios. This role is a senior leadership position responsible for guiding a team of product managers and owners across Fortem's integrated hardware, software, and AI-enabled counter-UAS solutions — including the TrueView radar family, SkyDome system-of-systems architecture, and C2/software platform capabilities.

The Director of Product serves as the connective tissue between engineering, sales, business development, and customers — translating mission requirements and market intelligence into compelling, differentiated products that sustain Fortem's technology leadership in airspace defense. This position reports to the EVP of Solution Engineering (or equivalent executive leadership).

Key Responsibilities

Portfolio Strategy & Roadmap Ownership

• Define and own the integrated product strategy and roadmaps across Fortem product portfolios.
• Align roadmap priorities across both portfolios to ensure cohesive system-of-systems performance and seamless product integration.
• Evaluate market trends, threat intelligence, competitive dynamics, and customer feedback to continuously refine product direction and prioritization.

Team Leadership & Development

• Lead, mentor, and develop a team of Product Managers responsible for individual product lines within the portfolio.
• Establish clear ownership, accountability, and collaboration norms across the product team.
• Build and mature product management processes, documentation standards, and agile best practices across the organization.

Cross-Functional Leadership

• Partner closely with engineering (hardware, software, etc), systems engineering, and manufacturing to guide product development from concept through delivery.
• Collaborate with marketing, sales, and business operations to develop go-to-market strategies, product positioning, pricing, and sales enablement materials.
• Provide product expertise and competitive insights to support capture efforts, proposal generation, and customer-facing technical briefings for domestic and international government, and commercial opportunities.

Customer & Stakeholder Engagement

• Serve as a senior customer-facing representative for the product portfolio, engaging directly with domestic and international customers, government agencies, and commercial partners to gather operational insights and validate requirements.
• Support field demonstrations, operational testing events, and program reviews.
• Brief senior executive-level customers, program offices, and corporate leadership on product strategy and roadmap direction.

Requirements & Lifecycle Management

• Own the development of robust Product Requirements Documents (PRDs) and system-level requirements across both portfolios, informed by threat analysis, operational data, and customer input.
• Oversee product lifecycle management from concept through end-of-life, including version planning, configuration management, and technology refresh cycles.
• Lead the handoff process of new products and software/firmware releases from engineering to operations, training, and customer support.

Program & Execution Oversight

• Partner with program management to ensure committed product capabilities are delivered on schedule and within scope for key government and commercial programs.
• Drive resolution of cross-portfolio technical and schedule conflicts, escalating to executive leadership as needed.

Required Skills & Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Aerospace, Systems Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
• 8 years of progressive experience in product management or systems engineering for complex hardware/software or integrated electro-mechanical systems.
• 3 years of direct people management experience, including managing senior-level product managers or equivalent technical leads.
• Demonstrated track record of defining, launching, and scaling successful products through full lifecycle management.
• Experience working with and delivering products to DoD, defense prime contractors, or government customers; familiarity with government acquisition, capture, and proposal processes.
• Strong working knowledge of agile development methodologies and cross-functional product development environments.
• Proven ability to communicate complex technical and strategic concepts effectively to diverse audiences — from engineering teams to senior executives and customers.
• Experience with bid and proposal activities, including requirements definition, price-to-win strategy, and technical presentations.
• Willingness to travel to support customer engagement, field demonstrations, and operational activities.
• US citizenship or permanent residency status is required.

Preferred Skills

• Advanced degree (M.S. or MBA) in a technical or business discipline.
• Direct experience with radar systems, sensor fusion, distributed detection networks, or counter-UAS (C-UAS) technologies.
• Experience with command-and-control (C2) software platforms, AI at the edge, or multi-domain situational awareness systems.
• Familiarity with UAV/UAS platforms, autonomous systems, or interceptor technologies.
• Background in physical security of critical infrastructure or airspace management.
• Experience scaling a product management function within a high-growth defense or dual-use technology company.
• Active DoD security clearance or eligibility to obtain one.
