The Senior Catastrophe Modeler is responsible for leading catastrophe risk analysis and modeling efforts to support the reinsurance department’s underwriting, portfolio management, and strategic decision-making. This role provides critical insights into natural catastrophe exposures, leveraging vendor models, internal tools, and custom analytics. The modeler works closely with underwriting, actuarial, and finance teams to ensure catastrophe risk is accurately assessed, effectively managed, and aligned with the company’s risk appetite. The ideal candidate brings a blend of technical expertise, business insight, and strong communication skills to help drive informed, risk-adjusted decisions across the reinsurance portfolio.

Qualifications:

  • Advanced knowledge of vendor models (e.g., RMS, Verisk, AIR) and exposure to internal models or view of risk frameworks.
  • Familiarity with reinsurance structures (quota share, XOL, retro, ILWs) and how cat risk influences treaty pricing and portfolio strategy.
  • Proficiency in tools such as SQL, Python, R, or VBA.
  • Experience with data visualization tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau) is a plus.
  • Ability to clearly explain technical findings to non-technical audiences.
