Specialist III – IT Training

Reports to: IT Manager II – Training

Pay Grade: 503

Duty Days: 239

Salary Range: $55,850 - $67,283

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Position Purpose

Supports the ongoing training and development of staff to ensure a high-quality customer support experience for stakeholders. Develops and delivers training content, tools, and processes supporting on/off boarding, operational tools, strategic programs, and compliance to local, state, and federal programs. Supports staff by delivering interactive, memorable, and inclusive training experiences. Provides a high-quality customer support experience for stakeholders.

Essential Job Functions

  • Assists in development of individualized and group training programs that address specific IT needs, such as software & hardware development, network administration, cybersecurity, data analysis, etc.
  • Assists in development of engaging curricula and tools; including new hire and existing employee learning.
  • Assists in development of and/or updates, implements and administers program learning.
  • Standardizes all training documents, both internal to technology and external facing.
  • Develops online training by working directly with different District business units to create videos of current business processes available online.
  • Collaborates with external vendors, consultants, trainers, and experts to provide specialized or customized training solutions when needed.
  • Implements effective and purposeful training methods, such as instructor-led training, e-learning, blended learning, coaching, mentoring, etc.
  • Maintains training catalog, validates training attendance in District course management system.
  • Determines system utilization requirements by researching and testing systems.
  • Evaluates effectiveness of training for specific jobs.
  • Develops an extensive working knowledge of product suites provided by the District.
  • Assists with new software implementation to maximize use of the software.
  • Stays connected on current learning/teaching trends and adopts innovative approaches to drive impactful, engaging learning for participants.

Safety

  • Performs preventive maintenance on tools and equipment and ensures equipment is in safe operating condition.
  • Follows established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties including lifting and climbing; operates tools and equipment according to established safety procedures.
  • Corrects unsafe conditions in work area and promptly reports any conditions that are not immediately correctable to supervisor.

  • Knowledge of adult learning theory with experience designing and implementing effective training and development through adopting multiple learning approaches.
  • Knowledge of data information systems, data analysis, and the formulation of action plans.
  • Skill in coordinating, planning, organizing, and facilitating staff development.
  • Skill in professional learning, technical assistance, and consultation.
  • Skill using various multimedia programs for formal presentations and reports.
  • Skill in program planning, development, analysis and evaluation.
  • Ability to create and maintain technical documentation.
  • Ability to link training to performance and quality using measurable outputs
  • Ability to learn new software applications or web-based tools and develop materials to deliver knowledge transfer to others.
  • Ability to build, guide, organize, and work cooperatively with others to complete technical projects.
  • Ability to design, organize, and track work plans, create appropriate working and decision- making processes, ensure stakeholders are engaged, and support the work itself.
  • Ability to use application software to access databases, email, create spreadsheets, and process professional documents.
  • Ability to organize and coordinate work under pressure, meet tight deadlines, and proactively resolve issues.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both oral and written forms to a wide audience.
  • Ability to engage in self-evaluation with regard to performance and professional growth.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others contacted in the course of work.

Travel Requirements

  • Travels to school district buildings and professional meetings as required.

Physical & Mental Demands, Work Hazards

  • Tools/Equipment Used: Standard office equipment, including computer and peripherals.
  • Posture: Prolonged sitting and standing; occasional stooping, squatting, kneeling, bending, pushing/pulling, and twisting.
  • Motion: Frequent repetitive hand motions, including keyboarding and use of mouse; occasional reaching.
  • Lifting: Occasional light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds).
  • Environment: Works in an office setting; may require occasional irregular and/or prolonged hours.
  • Attendance: Regular and punctual attendance at the worksite is required for this position.
  • Mental Demands: Maintains emotional control under stress; works with frequent interruptions.

Minimum Required Qualifications

  • Education: (See approved combinations of Education & Experience below)
    • Accredited High School diploma, GED, or Texas Certificate of High School Equivalency required;
    • Associate’s degree from accredited college or university in a related field preferred.
  • Certification/License: None.
  • Experience: 3-5 years’ experience in training or user support required.

  • Language: Bilingual fluency (English/Spanish oral and written) preferred.
