About the Role
FWISD is seeking a Director of Dyslexia Services to provide strategic leadership for the district’s Dyslexia program. This role drives alignment with our Strategic Plan, ensuring all campuses deliver high-quality dyslexia instruction, intervention, and support.
The Director will:
- Oversee the districtwide Dyslexia Services model and ensure compliance with Texas Dyslexia Handbook (2024) and federal law.
- Support literacy directors, principals, and teachers with research-based instructional tools and training.
- Lead professional development for Providers of Dyslexia Instruction (PDIs) and assessors.
- Monitor program outcomes, analyze data, and adjust strategies for student growth.
- Build family and community understanding of dyslexia and FWISD services.
Key Responsibilities
- Direct, implement, and evaluate dyslexia instruction and referral/assessment processes.
- Guide curriculum, assessment, and materials adoption aligned to best practices.
- Lead training and professional learning across the district.
- Supervise and support PDIs, including staffing decisions.
- Collaborate with district and campus leaders to close literacy gaps for students.
Required Qualifications
- Master’s degree (required); coursework in supervision, reading, or special education preferred.
- Eligible for valid Texas Teaching Certification (must be attained within six months).
- 5 years’ experience including:
- 3 years’ successful ELA/Reading or core content teaching.
- 2 years’ campus or central office leadership (coach, dean, AP, principal, coordinator, etc.).
- Preferred: CALT certification, special education or reading certification, experience in urban/diverse school systems.
