Lower School Librarian

Fort Worth Country Day
Fort Worth, TX Full Time
POSTED ON 1/13/2026
AVAILABLE BEFORE 3/12/2026

Fort Worth Country Day is seeking an enthusiastic, student-centered educator who loves literacy and is eager to join a vibrant Lower School community. Reporting to the Head Librarian and the Head of Lower School, this dynamic, highly qualified, and approachable specialist will lead the Lower School library program and serve as a vital member of a four-person library team, beginning in August 2026.

Our ideal candidate builds strong relationships with students and designs engaging, collaborative lessons that invite learners to explore, discover, and construct knowledge together. Drawing inspiration from evidence-based literacy practices and active learning strategies, they foster an environment where curiosity and intellectual play deepen a love of reading. We value educators who bring a balanced pedagogical toolkit—bridging multi-modal fluency with traditional library services—while remaining open to exploring new approaches, including thoughtful curation of emerging media and AI-assisted inquiry.

Above all, we seek educators who believe that belonging, joy, and rigor are inseparable: a library built on high expectations can, and should, be a place where young children feel seen and genuinely excited to learn. Beyond the library stacks, we seek educators who look forward to participating in the broader life of the school in ways that are sustainable and support a healthy work-life balance. Our teachers delight in the energy, humor, and authenticity of young children, bring optimism and curiosity to their work, and thrive in a collegial community of adults who learn from and with one another.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Program Coordination: Lead the library program for grades JK-4, meeting with all Lower School classes regularly to teach inquiry-based research and media literacy.
  • Literacy Advocacy: Foster a genuine love of reading among students and faculty through curated collections, book talks, and school-wide literacy initiatives that reflect a diverse and inclusive global landscape.
  • Collection Management: Select and maintain the Lower School collection, ensuring it provides varied entry points for all readers and supports the divisional curriculum through both print and digital modalities.
  • Collaboration: Work effectively with classroom teachers to improve student learning outcomes and embed information fluency across the curriculum.
  • Summer Programming: Coordinate the Lower School summer reading program and staff the library during scheduled summer open hours.
  • Outreach: Promote library services and programs to the wider school community through creative communication and digital storytelling.
  • Partnership: Develop strong partnerships with families, library volunteers, and consult regularly with the Division Head and Assistant Head.

The ideal candidate will also:

  • Demonstrate joy and enthusiasm in working with young children.
  • Love their subject area and stay current with children’s literature, and evolving digital literacy.
  • Show a strong commitment to ongoing professional growth, engaging in conferences, webinars, and school library visits.
  • Work comfortably in a digital environment, modeling responsible digital stewardship and cognitive flexibility for students.
  • Be flexible, collaborative, and eager to join a community that values continual growth.
  • Represent the School professionally and positively.
