Security Guard

The minimum starting pay for this nonexempt position is $16.00/hr.

Fort Worth Botanic Garden (FWBG) Security Guards ensure the safety and security of both our facilities and our guests. We rely on our Security Team to make our guests feel comfortable and safe in our buildings, parking lots, and garden areas. Customer Service is at the forefront of our organizational mission and our Security Guards are one of the many faces of this commitment. This role requires sufficient communication skills to assist guests with questions, directions, and feel welcome on our campus. The Security Guard also must have a dedication to ensuring the safety of the facilities and those on campus and have the confidence and poise to professional handle conflicts and security concerns.

Key Responsibilities:

Accountability:

1. Maintains a secure, healthy, and safe working environment by ensuring the FWBG’s policies and procedures are followed along with City of Fort Worth ordinances affecting the campus.
2. Responsible for the safety and security of assigned area. Conducts routine inspections for violations of security regulations, vandalism, trespassing, and tagging. Checks locked doors and gates.
3. Responds promptly to emergencies including medical problems, criminal activity, and related traffic control opportunities. Participates in the completion of incident and accident reports.
4. Monitors private vehicles behind the pay gate on campus including employees, contractors, vendors, and clients to ensure compliance with the vehicles on campus policy.

People Management/Interactions:

1. Welcomes and directs guests to the location they are seeking, provides general information to guests, and other assistance as requested.
2. Assists in the coordination of private events and provides escorts when needed.
3. Watches for and directs or escorts emergency vehicles responding to an incident at the Garden.
4. Trains and assists substitutes or second shift officers.
5. Collaborates with other departments to coordinate access and assistance needed for events, rental clients, project contractors, and maintenance vendors.

Communication:

1. Maintains daily security logs, prepares a variety of inspection reports, maintains and updates various records, and provides regular reports to Supervisor. 
2. Reports safety concerns to management and the HR & Safety Coordinator with recommended solutions.
3. Engage in all campus communication methods to stay informed and share information. This includes email, MS Teams, texts, calls, and newsletters.
4. Communicate with others clearly and effectively both verbally and in writing.

Competencies: Knowledge and Skills required:

• Trained in use of AED, CPR, and First Aid
• Commitment to adhering to safety protocols and workplace policies.
• Experience in similar security position, military security, or law enforcement

Additional Job Requirements

• Valid Texas Driver's License with acceptable driving record and auto-related liability insurance.
• Possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate certification or license may be required depending on assignment.
• Basic computer and mobile phone app skills for benefits enrollment, time reporting, and electronic communication.
• Be adaptable and flexible to changing schedules including occasional weekends, evenings and holidays.
• Ability to support and participate in FWBG public exhibitions and events.
• Able to work outside in Texas climate conditions.
• Every FWBG employee is expected to possess and be willing to use a mobile device for timekeeping and business communications via calls/texts/emails/Teams’ messages.
