Position Title: Secondary Technical Theatre Teacher
Reports to: Principal
Department: Theatre
Position Summary: The Technical Theatre Teacher is responsible for providing the highest quality experience and training for secondary students. This position is responsible for teaching Technical Theatre courses, designing and supporting school productions, and assisting in all aspects of technical theatre operations. The teacher will provide the highest quality experience and training for students through both teacher-led classroom instruction and hands-on exploration, encouraging students to discover and develop their own creative potential. Additionally, the teacher will collaborate with departmental faculty and administration to support the school’s mission through thoughtful curriculum development and performance planning aligned with the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) and the National Core Arts Standards.
Essential Job Function:
- Design and teach a TEKS-based curriculum for all technical theater classes while addressing the National Core Arts Standards
- Instruct, explain, and demonstrate techniques and methods of technical theater that promote the highest levels of technical experiences and skills development
- Create a positive, safe working environment, and be a role model and mentor for students
- Collaborate with other faculty to create fine arts curriculum and design creative learning opportunities
- Select age and developmentally appropriate material/resources
- Maintain equipment and performance facilities
- Prepare and direct students in recitals, productions, and events, on campus and in the community
- Attend staff meetings and professional development workshops as required
- Create and maintain positive communication with administration, staff, faculty, students, and parents
- Foster a classroom environment that encourages exploration, creativity, and technical skills development.
- Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse needs of learners.
Essential Job Requirements:
- Education: Bachelor's degree required with a concentration in Theatre, Musical Theatre, or Theatre Education; Teacher certification (EC-12 or equivalent) or Highly Qualified designation required; Individuals with relevant work experience willing to pursue alternative certification will be considered
- Experience: Minimum three (3) years' experience teaching technical theatre to children required;
- Proficiency in set construction, lighting, sound, costuming, and general stagecraft
- Required Skills and Capabilities: Demonstrated artistic skills as a technician, Practical knowledge of theatre/technical theatre arts vocabulary and history; Strong classroom management skills; Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse team; Excellent verbal and written communication
- Preferred Skills and Capabilities: Proven experience collaborating with others to develop interdisciplinary programs
- Physical Requirements: Ability to carry up to 75 lbs.; valid driver license
Position Category: 10 month contract, exempt, full time- 187 days
Salary : $50,000 - $61,500
