PURPOSE
Perform grounds maintenance and gardening activities involved in the beautification of District grounds and landscaped areas.

Minimum Qualifications
- Graduation from high school supplemented by three years’ experience in grounds maintenance.
- Must possess knowledge of the technical aspects methods materials terminology principles practices procedures and equipment used in assigned field.
- Must possess a valid Indiana driver’s license and will be required to work non-scheduled hours.
- Must be required to pass the Core Exam within 6 months of accepting the position.
- Mow edge trim and water lawns fields and other turf grounds; prepare and fertilize soil; water various grounds areas by hand or by operating the irrigation system; maintain grounds areas in a clean orderly and safe condition.
- Operate a variety of power-driven equipment including mowers tractors snow throwers edgers blowers string trimmer straw thrower chippers chainsaws leaf vacuum hedge trimmers and other equipment used in grounds maintenance activities; utilize standard gardening and maintenance hand tools.
- Plant cultivate trim prune spray fertilize and irrigate flowers trees grass hedges and shrubs; hoe and pull weeds and rake leaves; edge walkways; sweep litter from walks driveways and other assigned areas; empty waste receptacles.
- Participate in a variety of snow removal activities; clear entryways walkways and other areas of snow; apply ice-melter as needed.
- Perform minor maintenance on equipment such as sharpening blades checking and replenishing oil and replacing spark plugs; perform regular and periodic maintenance on tractors mowers snow throwers custodial equipment and other related equipment.
- Repair custodial equipment such as HEPA vacuums scrubbers water extractors auto floor machines carpet extractors and other small custodial equipment; pickup and deliver to buildings as needed.
- Apply weed control methods to eradicate weeds and other pests according to established procedures.
- Perform work from ladders bucket trucks and scaffolding as needed.
- Assist other maintenance personnel in emergency situations to deliver drying and water extraction equipment and operate as needed; assist in the moving of furniture as needed. Serve as back-up for grounds maintenance.
- Maintain work areas equipment and tools in a safe clean and orderly condition.
- Support and assist Sedexo personnel in the training of the proper operation of custodial equipment.
- Layout and line athletic fields; set up for and work athletic events; support as needed outside normal working hours.
- Replenish and dress playground safety surfacing on all playgrounds.
- Assist in the transport and set up of manlifts and seasonal moves required for small engine/equipment maintenance; drives truck while pulling and backing a trailer; transport fuel to buildings.
