What are the responsibilities and job description for the Director of High Schools position at Fort Wayne Community Schools?
PURPOSE
The primary functions of the Director will be to coach, evaluate and support building leadership so that we educate all students to high standards and support the district’s goals. Assist the Chief Academic Officer in monitoring and evaluating programs and operation of high schools. Works collaboratively with other Directors and Chiefs to coordinate services with all high schools, Amp Lab and Career Academy.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Master’s degree in education
- Administrative license from the Indiana Department of Education
- Eight (8) years experience working with educational programs and services
- Five (5) years as a principal or related administrative experience working with school-based management and instruction.
- Must have strong planning, administrative, supervisory, analytical, computer, organizational, accountability, oral and written communication skills.
- Must possess knowledge of the comprehensive organization, operations, policies and objectives of the assigned department or area.
- Director must have the ability to manage change and build effective relationships with adult learners, building staff, district support staff, parents and community.
- Demonstrated ability to drive measurable improvements in student achievement
- Proven ability to improve key performance indicators such as student attendance, graduation rates, and dual credit attainment
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Plan, organize and direct operations and activities designed to support the leadership development of building administrators for assigned schools. This includes the development of professional relationships with staff, students, parents, patrons and district personnel; the development of a professional learning community culture; the development of systems and procedures designed to support a focus on student learning.
- Provide leadership and oversight for the implementation, monitoring, and accountability of the Schools of Success model, including small learning communities, career pathways, and ensuring students demonstrate the Profile of a Graduate
- Assess the effectiveness and direct the implementation of leadership and instructional programs and practices designed to maximize student achievement in schools, based on district, state, and national models as evidenced by student learning data.
- Support, monitor and evaluate building principals’ application of district models and practices designed to maximize student achievement in schools.
- Monitor, analyze, and facilitate professional learning needs to build level administrators for assigned schools. This includes professional learning around teacher effectiveness, leadership action and student achievement.
- Collaborate with Chief Academic Officer and actively participate in the hiring of building administrators in accordance with FWCS policies.
- Supervise and evaluate the performance of assigned staff in accordance with the FWCS System of Support for Principals.
- Assess, support, mediate and resolve parent concerns for any school. Maintain appropriate documentation and follow up with school personnel to adjust skills and practices.
- Work with the Communications and Marketing department to promote FWCS programs.
- Perform related duties as assigned by the Chief Academic Officer; must demonstrate participation in and contributions to the goals of district cross functional teams.
