JOB SUMMARY
The Farm Worker assists with daily farm operations and supports agricultural research activities, including planting, cultivating, and harvesting crops, as well as helping scientists with research plots, which may involve greenhouse work. This role includes general farm maintenance such as fencing, mowing, and weed trimming, as well as caring for livestock, including cows, goats, and sheep, by feeding, watering, milking, hoof trimming, disbudding, and administering medications as directed.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Maintain pastures, fences, and farm equipment to ensure a safe and productive work environment.
- Operate farm machinery and equipment efficiently and safely.
- Prepare and mix animal feed according to specified rations.
- Service, repair, and maintain small machinery as needed.
- Handle and move livestock, including the use of livestock trailers.
- Perform additional job-related duties as assigned to support farm operations.
COMPLEXITY/SCOPE OF WORK
- Occasional travel to pick up supplies and attend meetings/trainings Work done mostly outside and sometimes in a climate-controlled environment
PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ WORK ENVIRONMENT
- Physical activities include sitting, standing, walking, catching animals, heavy lifting (50 and occasionally up to 75 pounds), reaching over the shoulder and repeated bending.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Strong background in animal husbandry or experience in caring for Animals and working on a farm.
- Experience in construction and repair of farm equipment.
- Familiarity of feed mill operations
- Valid driver's license and clean driving record
