JOB SUMMARY

The College of Agriculture, Family Sciences and Technology (CAFST) invited applications for an energetic and student-focused faculty member with expertise in Veterinary Technology for a 10-month tenure-track appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor in the Department of Veterinary Technology pending previous experience.

The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching undergraduate courses in Veterinary Technology, mentoring students and supporting programmatic activities that strengthen the academic and experiential learning environment of the department.

Student mentorship and advisement are central to the position. In addition to providing academic advising, the faculty members will guide and support the Veterinary Technology club, collaborate and assist with Research Farm and Cooperative Extension animal operations and participate in relevant university and community service activities.

The successful candidate will also be expected to engage in a focused program of scholarly activity resulting in peer-reviewed publications, professional presentations and collaborative research opportunities. Participation in professional development, clinical engagement and service to the community is expected. Specific teaching assignments will be assigned by the chair of the department.

Specific teaching assignments will be determined by the Department Chair based on departmental needs.

MAJOR DUTIES

  • Provide quality didactic and clinical instruction in radiology, laboratory and biomedical procedures and large and small animal diseases using high impact practices (HIPs) to promote student learning in undergraduate courses in Veterinary Technology
  • Design, prepare and supervise student laboratories and hands-on instructional activities within the discipline.
  • Use both internal (eg. Desire to Learn (D2L)) and other instructional technologies to deliver course materials and enhance student engagement.
  • Develop course objectives, assignments, and effective methods for evaluating student performance.
  • Provide timely and constructive feedback on student assignments.
  • Seek and obtain extramural funding through competitive grants and collaborative partnerships.
  • Provide in-house veterinary care for research and extension animals as needed
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY THE POSITION

  • Working knowledge of veterinary hospital management software
  • Demonstrated interest in teaching undergraduate students at the college level.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide to advise and mentor undergraduate students
  • Interest in advising co-curricular activities and student organizations.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Evidence using instructional technology to enhance student learning.
  • Evidence of innovative instructional pedagogy including familiarity with AI-supported educational tools in discipline.
  • Ability to create supportive learning environments in which students can thrive.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues in teaching and extension activities is important
  • Strong interpersonal, analytical, organizational and teamwork skills.
  • Demonstrated potential to secure external funding

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM).
  • Veterinary licensure in the State of Georgia issued by the Georgia Board of Veterinary Medical Examiners or eligibility to obtain licensure in Georgia
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience in animal practice, preferably including large animal practice.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Preference will be given to applicates with prior clinical experience, a post-DVM degree and potential for research and grantsmanship.
  • Successful experience in mixed animal Veterinary Practice Operations is also preferred.
  • Documented evidence of successful teaching at college level
  • Documented evidence of teaching hybrid and fully online courses
  • Demonstrated record of successful college level pedagogical research or creative activity
