Reports to Principal


Primary Purpose:


Provide students with appropriate learning activities and experiences in Culinary Arts designed to fulfill their maximum potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth. Enable students to develop competencies and skills that will prepare them for success in higher education, and careers, and prepare students for industry-based certifications.


Minimum Qualifications:


  • Education/Certification/Licensure:
  • Bachelor’s or Associate’s degree from an accredited college or university; culinary graduate preferred
  • Valid Texas Teaching Certificate with required endorsements for subject and level assigned
  • Serve-Safe Certified – Manager / Proctor
  • Completion of an approved teacher preparation program
  • Candidate must have a satisfactory outcome of fingerprinting background check.

Special Knowledge/Skills:

  • Knowledge and skills in Culinary Arts programs
  • Knowledge and appropriate use of large commercial kitchen equipment
  • Knowledge of cost control procedures
  • Knowledge of industry-related software
  • Ability to work within PC and Macintosh platforms
  • Ability to align Culinary Arts curriculum and instruction to industry certification exams
  • Knowledge of project-based learning programs
  • Ability to market the Culinary Arts program to students, staff, parents, and the business community
  • Ability to plan banquet menus, prepare and provide catering for the campus, district, and community events
  • Strong organizational, marketing, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to adjust and adapt to a multitude of situations in the school environment


Experience:

  • With Associate or Bachelor’s Degree: Three (3) years within the last 8 years of wage-earning experience in an appropriate occupation
  • No degree: Five (5) years within the last 8 years of wage-earning experience in an appropriate occupation
  • Four (4) years of industry-related professional food service experience preferred
  • Teaching experience, student teaching, or approved internship

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

Instructional Strategies

  • Develop and implement lesson plans that fulfill the requirements of the district’s curriculum program and show written evidence of preparation as required. Prepare lessons that reflect accommodations for differences in individual student differences.
  • Plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, equipment, and technology that reflect an understanding of the learning styles and needs of students assigned and present subject matter according to guidelines established by the Texas Education Agency, board policies, and administrative regulations.
  • Conduct assessment of student learning styles and use results to plan instructional activities.
  • Work cooperatively with special education teachers to modify curricula as needed for special education students according to guidelines established in Individual Education Plans (IEP).
  • Work with other members of staff to determine instructional goals, objectives, and methods according to district requirements.
  • Plan and assign work to the instructional aide(s) and volunteer(s) and oversee completion.

Student Growth and Development

  • Conduct ongoing assessment of student achievement through formal and informal testing.
  • Assume responsibility for extracurricular activities as assigned. Sponsor outside activities approved by the campus principal.
  • Present a positive role model for students; support the mission of the school district.

Classroom Management and Organization

  • Create a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students.
  • Manage student behavior in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct and the student handbook.
  • Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Assist in selecting books, equipment, and other instructional materials.
  • Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents required.

Communication

  • Establish and maintain a professional relationship and open communication with parents, students, colleagues, and community members.

Professional Growth and Development

  • Participate in staff development activities to improve job-related skills.
  • Comply with state, district, and school regulations and policies for classroom teachers.
  • Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required.

Other

  • Comply with federal, state, and local regulations related to the occupational area assigned.
  • Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Direct the work of assigned instructional aide(s).

Tools/Equipment Used: Personal computer and peripherals; standard instructional equipment

Posture: Prolonged standing; frequent kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting

Motion: Frequent walking

Lifting: Regular light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds); may lift and move textbooks and classroom equipment

Environment: Work inside, may work inside and outside; regular exposure to noise

Mental Demands: Maintain emotional control under stress; work prolonged or irregular hours
