Job Description

 

Purpose: The Pre-K Teacher creates a positive learning environment to facilitate the personal, social-emotional, and intellectual development and growth of students. In order to respond to the individual needs and abilities of students, the Pre-K Teacher will work closely with building administration and support staff. 

                                   

Reports To:    Building Principal

 

FLSA Status:   Exempt

 

Required Qualifications:     

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education
  • Valid Kansas Teaching Certificate with Early Childhood endorsements
  • Health and Inoculation Certificate on file in the District Office (after an employment offer is made)

Preferred Qualifications:     

  • Master’s Degree in Early Childhood Education
  • Three plus years of certified teaching experience
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and collaboration skills
  • Ability to foster a positive learning environment

Essential Functions:  To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily.

 

  • Ability to facilitate the personal, social-emotional, and intellectual development of students
  • Creates and maintains a positive learning environment for all students
  • Teaches with an understanding and respect for the individuality of each student
  • Teaches with scrupulous regard for honesty and accuracy without distortion or falsification
  • Conducts instructional programs in a manner consistent with the curricular objectives of the course
  • Adheres strictly to professional ethics
  • Prepares completely and adequately to carry out their responsibilities for all students within their classroom
  • Performs the necessary administrative work related to the assignment, including but not limited to completion of all reports required by the District
  • Attends all staff conferences, individual conferences between teacher and administrator, and is available for pupil and parent conferences, including conferences for writing IEP's and staffing for special education
  • Supervises students in and around the school building, to include before and after the school day as assigned by the building principal
  • Ability to react positively to change and frequent interruptions in an educational environment
  • Ability to assist in the early recognition and prevention of education problems.
  • Ability to monitor student progress and make informed and timely educational decisions for student success
  • Makes provisions to assure that substitute teacher will have adequate direction and lesson plans
  • Fully performs supplemental assignments, if any, in a professional manner
  • Conducts tasks such as planning, grading, and parent communications
  • Undertakes efforts, which promote professional growth in alignment with the Districts vision, mission, and goals
  • Reports all cases of suspected child abuse or neglect
  • Observes, enforces, and is directed by the policies, rules, and regulations adopted by the school district
  • Attends programs designed for the involvement of parents, students, and community patrons when school is not in session as determined by the school building administration
  • Assumes responsibility for keeping parents informed between grading periods when pupil performance is less than satisfactory or when performance deviates from reasonable expectation for an individual pupil
  • May be required to perform diapering for students or assist with toileting for students who may not be potty trained
  • Must keep student information and records confidential.
  • Regular routine attendance at work
  • Carries out the duties and responsibilities, as assigned by administration

  • Ability to sit and stand for extended periods
  • Ability to enter data into a computer, to see and read a computer screen and printed material with or without vision aids
  • Ability to hear and understand speech at normal classroom levels, outdoors, and on the telephone
  • Ability to speak in audible tones so that others may understand clearly in normal classrooms, outdoors, and on the telephone
  • Physical ability to lift up to 25 pounds to shoulder height and 50 pounds to waist height
  • Ability to bend, stoop, and sit on the floor for prolonged periods of time.
  • Ability to climb stairs, walk and reach overhead

Terms of Employment: At-will employment. A 187-day contract under the Negotiated Agreement  

 

Evaluation:   Performance evaluations in accordance with the Negotiated Agreement
