Overview
We are seeking dedicated and courageous individuals to join our firefighting team. As a Firefighter, you will play a crucial role in protecting lives and property by responding to emergencies, extinguishing fires, and providing critical support in various emergency situations. This position requires physical stamina, quick decision-making skills, and a commitment to community service.
Duties
- Respond promptly to fire alarms and emergency calls.
- Operate firefighting equipment and vehicles safely and effectively.
- Extinguish fires using appropriate techniques and equipment.
- Conduct search and rescue operations in hazardous environments.
- Administer basic life support, first aid, and CPR to injured individuals as needed.
- Perform routine maintenance checks on firefighting equipment and vehicles.
- Participate in training exercises to maintain skills and knowledge of firefighting techniques.
- Educate the community on fire prevention and safety measures.
- Collaborate with other emergency services during multi-agency responses.
Requirements
- Must possess a valid US driver's license with a commercial driving endorsement preferred.
- Must be 18 years of age at time of appointment and ability to meet such medical and physical standards as may be required at time of appointment
- Have no felony or serious misdemeanor convictions
- Certification as an EMT-B optional (National Registry or Michigan State).
- Certification as a NFPA 1001 Firefighter Level 1 & 2 optional.
- Certification in NFPA 1072 Hazardous Materials Awareness & Operations optional.
- Ability to lift heavy objects (up to 100 pounds) as part of emergency response duties.
- Strong mechanical knowledge for operating and maintaining firefighting equipment.
- Excellent communication skills for effective teamwork and public interaction.
- Willingness to work irregular hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.
- High school diploma or equivalent; additional certifications or training in fire science is a plus.
