ESSENTIAL DUTIES, FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Performs CT scanning of the human anatomy.
- Produces ionizing radiation within a safe permissible range as to achieve quality images.
- Provides proper patient protection in accordance with prescribed safety standards related to radiographic examination. Secures the confidence and cooperation of the patient during examination procedures.
- Assists with the radiology functions of a patient care facility, including planning and development of departmental policies and procedures.
- Ensure compliance will all applicable tribal, state, federal laws, policies and regulations.
- Operate all fixed and portable radiographic systems.
- Perform duties vital to Diagnostic Radiology and CT Services for Outpatient, Inpatient and Emergency Medicine Services.
- Ensure all patient orders, lab work and consent forms are complete in a timely manner.
- Reviews labs and patient history to perform correct exam.
- Administers IV contrast and oral/rectal contrast when appropriate.
- Familiarity recognition and responds to any adverse reactions or allergic reactions.
- Administers IV contrast material by means of existing IV line or by performing venipuncture.
- Identify and review each patient’s requisition, either with a hard copy or in the computer system, for consistency of examination ordered with clinical diagnosis.
- Ensure accurate documentation on exams/requisitions (i.e., patient’s full name, chart number, date of birth and examinations performed, etc.).
- Assess patient’s condition; ensure patient safety through proper use of table straps and other support devices.
- Identify anatomical orientation on all required images and ensure proper film identification on all images.
- Coordinate exams with other modalities in order to ensure patients are processed through the department as efficiently as possible.
- When appropriate, case review with the Radiologist.
- Screens the patient for possibility of pregnancy and performs pregnancy testing if applicable.
- Responsible in reviewing radiology orders for completeness and accuracy.
- Reviews patient history and supporting clinical data for medical necessity.
- Takes steps to acquire additional information, if needed from the patient, ordering provider and/or Radiologist.
- Demonstrates acceptable imaging quality standards by critiquing positioning, technical factors and alignment.
- Review patient data for accuracy, quality and completeness.
- Verify and transfer image data in PACS and provides necessary medical history and information for Radiologist interpretation.
- Ensure patient, visitor and environmental safety.
- Prevent excessive radiation doses to the patient and staff by utilizing A.L.A.R.A. and adhering to department policies.
- Initiate applicable “incident reports” in the RLDatix system by the end-of-shift; and report incomplete and incorrect examinations to the oncoming shift and to the Radiology Manager.
- Transport patients to other departments as needed.
- Respond to on-call services in a timely manner.
- Assist with quality and safety programs and ensure compliance with hospital accreditation requirements.
- Participate in development and review program goals and objectives for the Radiology Department.
- Assist with reviews on Radiology Services’ Quality Assurance program, which complies with CMS and conforms to FDIHB, Inc.’s Quality Assurance plan.
- Maintain cooperative communication with other departments.
- Communicate with Health Information Technology, when necessary to assure billing is timely and current.
- Actively assist in supply inventory and ordering and maintain equipment assigned to the department.
- Maintain accurate record on equipment preventive maintenance and quality control as necessary.
- Maintain accurate Daily/Weekly/Monthly Quality Control (QC) reports.
- Assist with invasive procedures and knowledge of these procedures.
- Competent in sterile technique.
- Attends/participates in all mandatory trainings.
- Assists in the orientation, training, and documentation of the progress of radiologic technologists, contractors and/or students as assigned.
- Responsible for maintaining imaging equipment and workplace environment including maintaining supply inventories and cleanliness/orderliness of work area.
- Recognizes and reports malfunctions and services needed and reports service needs in a timely manner.
- Performs other duties as assigned. Assists Physicians and Radiologists as needed.
MINIMUM MANDATORY QUALIFICATIONS
Experience:
- Two (2) years of direct work experience. OR
- Direct work experience through FDIHB, Inc.’s Computed Tomography (CT)
Technologist training program.
Education:
- Associate of Science (AS) degree in Radiologic Technology OR
- Certificate of completion by an accredited radiology-training program and/or the U.S. Military Tri-Service Radiography Program.
Licensure/ Certifications:
- Certified and Registered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) and must maintain ARRT credentials.
- Active, unrestricted Computed Tomography (CT) Technologist Certification by the Arizona Department of Health Services (ADHS) and must maintain certification.
- Active, unrestricted Computed Tomography (CT) Technologist Certification by the
Arizona Department of Health Services (ADHS) and must maintain certification. - Valid American Heart Association (AHA) certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) and
maintain certification.
