Salary Range: $71,309.00/Year - $89,849.00/Year

Essential Duties, Functions And Responsibilities

  • Provides leadership to staff through effective objective setting, delegation, and communication and conducts staff meetings as required.
  • Ensures personnel are well trained, effective, and optimally used. Instructs personnel regarding policy, procedure, and program changes.
  • Conducts performance evaluations and monthly staff rounding as required; formulates and implements coaching and corrective actions as needed.
  • Ensures staffing levels are appropriate for traditional and cultural services provided to our patients and communities.
  • Reviews staff documentation in the Electronic Health Record (EHR) and follow up on referrals, scheduled appointments and aftercare.
  • Assists and supports department personnel as needed or schedule assigned work for support functions in the hospital.
  • Collaborates with the Behavioral Health Leadership team in developing policies to ensure appropriate standards of practice are in effect for quality services and in compliance with Hospital and federal standards.
  • Approves and disapproves leave and complete timesheets for payroll processing.
  • Approves and oversees the FY budget process and allocation of funding for the TCS program in collaboration with the Directors of the ACU, and Outpatient Services and Chief of Behavioral Health.
  • Support services as a resource for traditional healing/counseling services in personal care, native diagnostic procedures, and ritual treatment procedures to contribute to the holistic care of patients including mental, emotional, physical and spiritual aspects.
  • Plans, manages and supports the FDIHB traditional counseling/healing service in accordance with departmental goals in order to meet defined objectives of the TCS staff.
  • Serves as a reference for traditional counseling/healing service to staff and patients and their families in clinical and community settings, including the hospital bedside, native healing room, the meditation room, and traditional Hogan, sweat lodge, and community sites as appropriate.
  • When appropriate, supervise, delegate and support TCS staff to promote mutual understanding in providing interpretation when appropriate and assisting staff in understanding the cultural perspectives of health and wellness of individual patients and their families.
  • Supports TCS staff to provide and coordinate traditional counseling on disease process, health maintenance the promotion of healthy lifestyles and the prevention of illness while listening and supporting the patient’s current concerns.
  • Supports and supervises TCS staff who refers patients to other native practitioners for complex traditional therapies when needed. Documents all patient care and services provided in the medical record per FDIHB and departmental policy.
  • Administratively collaborate with local resources to assist with development of resources for further care if needed.
  • Supervises and monitor schedules and provides appropriate follow-up care of patients.
  • Supports and coordinate training on native medicine and culture for FDIHB staff and assists with staff development activities including TCS staff personal.
  • Appropriately document educational services provided per departmental policy.

Cultural Resource Duties

  • Provide consultation services to FDIHB staff as needed on native healing practices and traditional beliefs.
  • Perform ceremonies or blessings for FDIHB departments, including before and after mock codes, new facility dedications, annual clinical unit blessing and other activities as needed.

Program Support Duties

  • Manage spiritual therapeutic sweat services and maintain the traditional Hogan and sweat lodge facilities within FDIHB.
  • Participate on the Traditional Navajo Medicine Committee and other FDIHB committees as assigned.
  • Participate in departmental Quality Assessment Performance Improvement (QAPI) management activities.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Mandatory Minimum Qualifications

Experience:

Two (2) years direct work experience as a traditional healer/counselor.

One (1) year work experience in a supervisory capacity.

Education

High School Diploma

Certification

Certified within the Diné Hataalii Association (DHA) or within the Azee' Bee Nahaghá of Diné Nation (ABNDN).

FDIHB and its facilities are located within the Navajo Nation and, in accordance with Navajo Nation law, has implemented a Navajo/Indian Preference in Employment Policy.
