Role Description
The Chief Development Officer will spearhead and implement effective development strategies to meet fundraising goals and expand the organization’s capacity to serve survivors. Day-to-day responsibilities include overseeing planned and annual giving programs, managing major donor relationships, coordinating philanthropic campaigns, and leading strategic planning and budgeting for the development department.
Qualifications
- Provides executive leadership for all fundraising and development strategies, initiatives, and revenue-generating activities across the organization.
- Develops and executes a comprehensive, diversified fundraising strategy that includes major gifts, annual giving, institutional giving, grants, special events, third-party fundraising, corporate partnerships, and planned giving.
- Leads the design, implementation, and growth of a robust major gifts and planned giving program, with emphasis on donor pipeline development, cultivation, solicitation strategy, stewardship, and long-term relationship management.
- Oversees the agency’s grants strategy and process, including renewal of existing grants, identification of new funding opportunities, proposal development, stewardship, reporting, and management of institutional funder relationships.
- Partners with the Chief Executive Officer and Board of Directors to strengthen fundraising engagement, support board giving and fundraising activity, and advance strategic philanthropic priorities.
- Serves as the primary executive advisor on revenue diversification, campaign strategy, donor engagement, and philanthropic growth opportunities.
- Builds and maintains high-level relationships with donors, foundations, corporate partners, community leaders, and other external stakeholders to strengthen the organization’s visibility, credibility, and fundraising capacity.
- Provides executive oversight for fundraising events and donor engagement initiatives to ensure strong return on investment, brand alignment, and revenue contribution.
- Establishes fundraising goals, performance metrics, and accountability measures; monitors results and adjusts strategy as needed to achieve annual and long-range targets.
- Provides regular reports and strategic analysis to the Chief Executive Officer, the executive leadership team, and the Board of Directors on fundraising performance, donor pipeline, grant activity, campaign progress, and revenue forecasts.
- Builds, leads, and develops a high-performing development team, fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, innovation, and results.
- Participates as a key member of the executive leadership team and contributes to organizational strategy, sustainability planning, and enterprise-wide decision-making.
- Ensures all fundraising activities are conducted in accordance with ethical standards, legal requirements, grant obligations, and agency policies.
- Performs other duties as assigned in support of the agency’s mission and development objectives.
