Operations Advocate – Emergency Shelter
Location: Richmond, TX
Organization: Fort Bend Women’s Center
Schedule: Full-time | Includes weekends, holidays & occasional overtime

Position Summary
The Operations Advocate supports the Women’s Center’s emergency shelter by providing compassionate client assistance, crisis intervention, and facility support in a trauma-informed environment.
Key Responsibilities
Crisis Response
- Respond quickly and appropriately to crises and emergencies.
- Answer hotline calls and provide immediate crisis support.
- Use de-escalation and communication techniques to manage tense situations.
Client Support & Advocacy
- Welcome new clients, provide orientations, and distribute welcome kits.
- Assist clients with necessities and emotional support in a respectful, nonjudgmental way.
- Facilitate engagement activities and provide transportation as needed.
Safety & Facility Support
- Maintain safety and security for all residents and staff.
- Monitor security systems and follow safety procedures.
- Help keep shelter areas organized, sanitized, and welcoming.
Documentation & Communication
- Complete accurate documentation (shift notes, logs, and enrollments).
- Maintain room inspections, supply inventory, and records.
- Communicate effectively with clients, coworkers, and leadership.
Administrative & Other Duties
- Support general office operations, mail runs, and mandated reporting.
- Travel locally within Fort Bend and Harris Counties as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent (some college preferred).
- Prior residential or client advocacy experience preferred.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Valid Texas driver’s license and proof of auto insurance.
- Must pass background check and drug screening.

- Experience working with individuals affected by trauma (preferred but not required).
- Strong judgment, problem-solving, and teamwork abilities.
