Truancy & Diversion Case Manager - Juvenile Probation

Combines direct intervention with at-risk youth placed on remedial orders for Truant Conduct behavior and the administration of the Juvenile Diversion Program under the Texas Youth Diversion and Intervention Act (HB3186).

Works collaboratively with school personnel, service providers, community partner organizations and non-profit organizations to implement and monitor diversion strategies that encourage education achievement, reduce recidivism, promote positive youth development and youth outcomes.

Provides Services To Youth Considered At Risk Of Entering The Juvenile Justice System And Implements Intervention Services To Youth Engaged In Misconduct At The Direction Of The Justice Court Which May Include But Is Not Limited To

• Working intensely with the youth and his/her family in their home to determine the social factors that cause the at-risk behavior and work collaboratively to increase the protective factors to increase positive youth development and future outcomes.
• Providing direct counseling for students and families.
• Interacting with the youth’s school by constantly communicating with attendance clerks, social workers, counselors, assistant principals, teachers, and student attendance specialists to improve educational opportunities and success.
• Assisting with gathering funds from non-profit agencies for help with transportation issues, clothing and other necessary resources.
  
  

Assists The Justice Of The Peace Courts In Administering The Court's Juvenile And Diversion Dockets. Provides Supervision Of The Court's Orders In Juvenile And Diversion Cases Which May Include But Is Not Limited To

• Being assigned a special, priority caseload of at-risk youth as determined by the JP Court.
• Attending court and testifying, as needed
• Performing school visits, home visits and conducting office visits with youth and families.
• Preparing case plans on each case specifying definable goals for the youth and parent.
• Maintain case file as required
• Generating a compliance summary report indicating the youth’s progress; including recommendations to the court.
• Provides written reports to the court, as needed, in response to motions to modify a remedy.
• Attending ARD meetings, as needed.
• Retrieving attendance, discipline, and grade reports weekly.
• Making necessary referrals to the appropriate crisis intervention programs, specialized departmental programming, parenting education, and/or community resources
• Following up on referrals to programs to ensure attendance.
  
  

Serves as the Youth Diversion Coordinator (YDC) for eligible youth under the Justice Courts Juvenile Diversion Plan:

• Conducts intake assessments and develop Diversion Action Plans (DAPs) tailored to each youth’s needs.
• Monitor compliance with diversion agreements, including school attendance, community services, counseling, and restitution.
• Coordinate with the prosecutor and Judge to evaluate progress and determine the appropriate next steps.
• Prepare and submit reports, including compliance summaries and recommendations for court review.
  
  

Participate in planning and evaluation of diversion strategies and truancy prevention programs.

Engage with community partners to expand available services and resources.

Participates in activities and duties related to emergency management during a local state of disaster as directed by appropriate county managers.

Minimum Job Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice or other state approved related field.

2 years job related experience.

Good verbal and written communication skills.

Good computer and organizational skills; ability to complete assigned projects in a timely manner.

Interpersonal skills and ability to deal effectively with the public, other employees, and elected officials.

Minimum 21 years of age.

Eligible to be a Certified Juvenile Probation Officer.

Subject to irregular work hours.

STARTING SALARY RANGE: $27.03 - $38.57 hourly based on qualifications

CLOSING DATE: Upon filling position

This position is eligible for additional compensation based upon state supplement and certification pay.

An applicant may not have any of the following disqualifying criminal history:

• A felony conviction against the laws of this state, another state, or the United States within the past 10 years; a deferred adjudication for a felony against the laws of this state, another state, or the United States within the past 10 years or current felony probation or parole.
• A jailable misdemeanor conviction against the laws of this state, another state or the United States within the past 5 years; a deferred adjudication for a jailable misdemeanor against the laws of this state, another state, or the United States within the past 5 years or current misdemeanor probation or parole.
• Registered as a sex offender under Chapter 62, Texas Code of Criminal Procedure.
