TRIO Programs at Forsyth Tech Community College hosts four (3) U.S. Department of Education
federally funded TRIO Programs: Student Support Services, (2) Upward Bound Programs.
Student Support Services serve 140 low-income, first-generation students and students with disabilities at Forsyth Tech Community College. Student Support Services provides opportunities for academic development, assists students with college requirements through academic advisement and other success tools, and motivates students toward the successful completion of them postsecondary education. The goal of SSS is to increase the college retention, graduation, and 4-year transfer rates of its participants. The Student Support Services Director provides leadership and administrative oversight for both the Student Support Services and Student Support Services STEM – Health Sciences programs and staff.
TRIO Programs are located within the Holistic Success Services and housed primarily on the Main Campus. The Student Support Services Director reports to the Executive Director of TRIO Programs supervises one part time Engagement and Retention Specialist and work-study student staff.
Minimum Qualifications
You must possess the following:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Education, Social Services, Guidance and Counseling, Education Administration, Adult and Higher Education or a related field is required; Ability to work in a diverse environment.
  • Three years of experience as an administrator of federal grant, college academic support program or related programs
  • Knowledge of and two years’ experience working with low-income, first generation, students with disabilities and/or students from diverse backgrounds
  • Knowledge and/or experience working in a collegiate environment.
  • Proven fiscal management skills and budgetary experience.
  • Familiarity with ADA law/disability services, financial aid requirements and college admission.
  • Valid Driver’s License with a driving record in good standing
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.
  • Demonstrated commitment to and sensitivity to addressing the needs of economically and educationally disadvantaged youth or experience, as a participant or employee, with Federal TRIO programs or other educational opportunity programs.
  • Ability to work in a multi-ethnic and multi-cultural environment with students, faculty and staff.
  • Demonstrated ability to utilize technology effectively in program operations and student services.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret data and prepare accurate, comprehensive reports.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to present information clearly to administrators, faculty, students, and community stakeholders.
  • Commitment to and respect for diversity, equity, and inclusion, with an understanding of and sensitivity to the varied backgrounds and experiences of students, staff, and the college community.


Note: Degrees and hours must be from a college accredited by a United States Department of Education accepted accrediting agency such as SACSCOC.
Preferred Qualifications
We would prefer you to also possess:
  • A master’s degree in education, Educational Administration, Educational Leadership, Higher Education, Counseling, Social Work, or a closely related field
  • Five plus years of related experience
  • Preference given to individuals who have overcome similar academic, economic and cultural obstacles.
  • Public relations skills and advocating for disadvantaged students
  • Bilingual
Essential Duties
  • Hire, train, supervise, and evaluate all full-time and part-time staff.
  • Supervise, organize, and coordinate staff efforts to ensure program activities and services are delivered in accordance with U.S. Department of Education (ED) regulations and will lead to meeting program objectives.
  • Communicate program services and objectives to campus administrators, faculty, students, and the broader college community.
  • Lead student recruitment and selection processes.
  • Provide personal, academic, financial, and career advising to SSS participants.
  • Develop program policies and procedures promoting student success.
  • Support the development and implementation of the Summer Bridge Program, including scheduling, communication, evaluations, budgeting, and faculty/staff collaboration.
  • Support the implementation the Mentoring Program,
  • Co-Instruct ACA 122 : College Transfer Success, guiding students in academic planning, critical thinking, study strategies, and exploration of transfer pathways, while supporting student success retention.


  • Lead in planning and execution of scheduling, communication, evaluations, budgeting, and faculty/staff collaboration of the following major grant activities:
    • Annual Graduation Achievement Banquet
    • National First-Generation College Celebration Day
    • One-Week Summer Bridge Program
    • Welcome Back Events
    • Transfer Trips
  • Maintain accurate records of student eligibility, participation, and academic progress.
  • Develop and administer tracking systems for current and former program participants.
  • Submit the U.S. Department of Education’s Annual Performance Report (APR) with support from SSS staff.
  • Authorize and manage expenditures in compliance with ED, state, and institutional policies with the Executive Director approval.
  • Collaboratively maintain all fiscal records and communicate with the Executive Director of TRIO Programs, Grants Accounting Office and Purchasing Office.
  • Develop and implement formative and summative evaluations of program services using quantitative and qualitative data.
  • Prepare and submit regular reports to the Executive Director of TRIO Programs, including:
    • Monthly program updates
    • Annual satisfaction and exit surveys
    • Quarterly Budget projection reports
  • Collaborate with Financial Aid, faculty, and other academic units to promote student retention and transfer.
  • Attend student trips with teams to promote college transfer, educational experiences, and workforce readiness awareness.
  • Serve as program liaison to internal and external constituencies, including participation in college committees.
  • Represent the SSS program at state, regional, and national TRIO and higher education conferences and organizations.
  • Collaborate with the Marketing department to create public relations and promotional materials.
  • Assist and Support Staff in identifying professional development.
  • Attend state, regional and national conferences.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
