The Forsyth County Department of Public Health is seeking a Sr. Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant (NP/PA) to maintain high-quality clinical services and effective provider oversight within the Public Health Department.  This position serves as a dual role by providing direct patient care while supervising the department's Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants.  The Senior Provider ensures clinical consistency, supports evidence-based practice, mentors providers, oversees quality improvement efforts, assists with policy development, and serves as a clinical resource for complex patient care.  Maintaining an active clinical role allows the Senior Provider to remain engaged in day-to-day operations while providing informed leadership and guidance to the provider team.

Work Schedule:
Monday - Wednesday:  8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
Thursday:  8:00 a.m. - 8:00 p.m Rotation
Friday:  8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
*Occasional weekend community events
The ideal candidate will possess the following knowledge, skills, and abilities:

Thorough knowledge of principles and practices of general medicine and disease states.

Thorough knowledge of health appraisal tools, laboratory test and findings, and therapeutic procedures.

Ability to plan a regime of care based on assessment and findings.

Thorough knowledge of available resources and appropriate referral methods.

Ability to effectively perform clinical functions.

Ability to teach and counsel patients, their families and other health professionals.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, patients and their families.

Knowledge and understanding of effective leadership, coaching, team building and communication skills and the ability to engage these skills as needed.


Licensed as a Physician Extender (Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) or Physician Assistant).
 
Four years of experience as a Physician Extender and Two years of experience in supervision, leadership or management; or

Licensed as a Physician Assistant by the North Carolina Board of Medical Examiners; or

Licensed as a Registered Nurse by the North Carolina Board of Nursing and current approval and license to practice as an FNP.

A higher education level may be considered as a substitution for all or part of the experience requirement.

A valid driver's license is required to operate a county vehicle for related travel and trainings.

SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS: Approved to practice specified medical acts by the North Carolina Board of medical Examiners or by the Joint Subcommittee of the North Carolina Board of Nursing and the North Carolina Board of Medical Examiners.

Essential duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Clinic Provider:
  • Provide direct patient care services, including the assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and management of acute and chronic health conditions.
  • Conduct comprehensive health histories, physical examinations, and risk assessments to support clinical decision-making.
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate individualized treatment and care plans in accordance with evidence-based practice standards and departmental policies.
  • Prescribe medications, treatments, and therapeutic interventions within the scope of licensure, credentialing, and established clinical protocols.

Supervision and Leadership
  • Provide clinical leadership, supervision, mentorship, and ongoing support to Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants to promote professional growth and clinical excellence.
  • Review clinical documentation, treatment plans, and prescribing practices to ensure quality care, regulatory compliance, and adherence to established standards of practice.
  • Monitor provider adherence to clinical protocols, evidence-based guidelines, departmental policies, and public health program requirements.
  • Serve as a clinical subject matter expert and resource for complex, high-risk, or unusual patient cases, providing consultation and guidance as needed.

Administrative, fiscal and HR management
  • Conduct timely and comprehensive performance evaluations for Nurse Practitioner and Physician Assistant staff, providing meaningful feedback to support professional growth and accountability.
  • Participate in the recruitment, interviewing, selection, onboarding, and orientation of new providers to ensure a smooth transition into clinical practice and organizational culture.
  • Assist with provider scheduling, workload management, and staffing coordination to ensure adequate clinical coverage and continuity of services across programs and clinic locations.
  • Collaborate with leadership in the development, implementation, and periodic review of clinical policies, procedures, standing orders, and practice guidelines to ensure compliance with current standards and regulations.

Salary : $89,294 - $102,669
