Join our team as a Dispatcher and play a crucial role in ensuring the smooth operation of our transportation processes. As a Dispatcher, you will be responsible for coordinating shipments, communicating with drivers and customers, and maintaining accurate records. Your attention to detail, strong communication skills, and ability to work in a fast-paced environment will contribute to the success of our logistics operations.

Responsibilities include, but not limited to:

• Coordinate and dispatch drivers to appropriate locations for material deliveries and/or pick-ups.
• Communicate with drivers, customers, and other stakeholders to provide updates on shipment status
• Resolve any issues or delays that may arise during the transportation process
• Schedule preventative maintenance on company trucks
• Provide excellent customer service by addressing inquiries and concerns promptly and professionally
• Review resumes and interview applicants for open driver positions as needed

Experience:

• High School Diploma or GED
• 1-2 years previous experience in dispatching or logistics preferred
• Strong data entry skills with attention to detail
• Knowledge of shipping and receiving processes
• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
• Ability to multitask and prioritize in a fast-paced environment
• Strong organizational and time management skills
• Phone etiquette and customer service experience is essential
• Understanding of 3PL (third-party logistics) operations is beneficial
• Proficient in Microsoft Office, including Outlook, Excel and Word

Physical Demands to be Successful as a Dispatcher with FSI:

1. Sitting for Long Periods: Dispatchers typically spend most of their shift seated at a workstation, so they need to be comfortable with prolonged sitting.
2. Computer Use: Dispatchers use computers extensively to manage calls, input data, and communicate with field personnel. This requires good hand-eye coordination and the ability to operate a keyboard and mouse.
3. Communication Skills: While not strictly a physical requirement, clear and effective verbal communication is crucial for dispatchers. This includes speaking clearly and listening attentively to callers and colleagues.
4. Multitasking Abilities: Dispatchers often need to handle multiple tasks simultaneously, such as answering calls, dispatching resources, and updating records. This requires strong multitasking skills and the ability to stay organized under pressure.
5. Stress Management: Dispatching can be a high-stress job, especially during emergencies or busy periods. Dispatchers should be able to remain calm and focused under pressure to make quick and accurate decisions.
6. Attention to Detail: Dispatchers must pay close attention to detail to ensure accurate recording of information, timely dispatching of resources, and adherence to protocols and procedures.
7. Physical Stamina: While dispatching itself may not be physically demanding, the job often involves long hours and irregular shifts. Dispatchers should have the stamina to work extended periods and remain alert throughout their shift.
8. Manual Dexterity: Dispatchers may need to use various equipment and tools, such as radios, telephones, and computer systems. Good manual dexterity is important for operating these devices efficiently.
9. Ability to Sit for Extended Periods: Since dispatchers spend much of their time at a workstation, they should be comfortable sitting for extended periods without experiencing discomfort or fatigue.
10. Ergonomic Awareness: Being aware of ergonomic principles can help prevent physical strain or injury associated with prolonged sitting and computer use. Employers may provide ergonomic training and equipment to support dispatcher comfort and health.
