POSITION SUMMARY
The Shop Foreman provides day to day leadership and coordination within a unionized shop environment. This position oversees the inspection, preventive maintenance, and repair of material handling equipment such as forklifts, pallet jacks, and aerial lifts. The Shop Foreman also ensures work is assigned fairly, safely, and efficiently and supports union employees and acts as a key coordinator between bargaining unit members and management.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
All employees are required to support Forklifts of Minnesota’s vision, mission, and values. The following are essential duties of this position and do not include marginal functions that are incidental to performance of fundamental job duties. The scope and duties of a given position may change or temporarily altered based on the business needs of Forklifts of Minnesota.
1. Provide technical leadership and direction
2. Support and mentor union technicians
3. Serve as a first point of contact for work-related questions, escalating labor-management issues when appropriate,
4. Participate in labor-management meetings as requested by management
5. Diagnose mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical faults using diagnostic tools, wiring diagrams, and schematics
6. Repair or replace engines, transmissions, hydraulic pumps, motors, brakes, steering, mast components, wiring, batteries, and chargers
7. Proactively advise customers or operations staff on downtime, repair options, costs, and preventive measures
8. Order, receive, and manage spare parts inventory and document parts usage, and labor hours on work orders
9. Conduct safety inspections and complete pre/post service checklists to ensure compliance with OSHA and manufacturer standards
10. Maintain a clean, safe workspace and follow company safety policies and PPE requirements
11. Perform other duties and responsibilities as required by management to meet the needs of the Company
Knowledge, Education, and/or Experience
1. High school diploma or GED required, technical or vocational training preferred
2. 5-10 years of experience as a technician or mechanic
3. Experience in high-volume or deadline-driven environments
4. Advanced experience working with hydraulic and electrical systems
5. Advanced experience with battery systems (lead-acid and lithium) and charging equipment
6. Material Handling manufacturers certification preferred
7. Certified Forklift Technician (CFT) certification preferred

4. Able to perform intermediate PC functions in Microsoft Office

Must have your own basic hand tools (The Company may provide specialty tools)
WORKING CONDITIONS
Indoor shop with temperature variations depending on the season. Frequent exposure to moving machinery, heavy equipment, and industrial chemicals. Regular exposure to moderate to loud noise from tools, machinery, and running engines.
