The Level 3 Switchgear Field Engineer is responsible for the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of electrical switchgear systems in the field. This role requires technical expertise and hands-on experience with switchgear ensuring the safe and reliable operation of electrical equipment at customer sites. The engineer will serve as a technical lead, providing guidance to junior staff and collaborating with clients to resolve complex issues.

The Level 3 Switchgear Field Engineer is responsible for the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of electrical switchgear systems in the field. This role requires technical expertise and hands-on experience with switchgear ensuring the safe and reliable operation of electrical equipment at customer sites. The engineer will serve as a technical lead, providing guidance to junior staff and collaborating with clients to resolve complex issues.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform advanced diagnostics, repairs, and maintenance on switchgear and related electrical systems.
- Complete commissioning and testing procedures for new and upgraded / retrofit switchgear installations.
- Interpret technical drawings, schematics, and specifications to troubleshoot and resolve complex issues.
- Ensure compliance with safety regulations, industry standards, and company protocols during all field operations.
- Document service activities, generate technical reports, and communicate findings to clients and project teams.
- Mentor and support Level 1 and Level 2 field engineers, sharing best practices and technical knowledge.
- Travel to various customer sites as required, sometimes on short notice, to address urgent system issues.
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, or equivalent experience.
- Minimum of 5 years’ hands-on experience with switchgear systems or power generation systems, medium voltage preferred.
- Strong knowledge of electrical safety standards and field service protocols.
- Ability to work independently and lead technical projects in the field.
- Excellent communication, documentation, and problem-solving skills.
- Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel.
- Ability to lift and carry equipment up to 50 lbs.
- Willingness to work outdoors and in challenging environments.
- Comfortable with extended periods of standing, bending, and climbing.
