What are the responsibilities and job description for the Welder/Fabricator position at Forge Racks and Dunnage?
The Welder/Fabricator is responsible for welding, fitting, and assembling metal components according to blueprints, work orders, and quality standards. This position requires the ability to safely operate welding and fabrication equipment while maintaining productivity and producing high-quality work. Welding certification is not required; however, applicants must demonstrate the ability to perform quality welds and safely operate welding equipment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Perform MIG welding on steel components in a fabrication shop environment.
- Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and work instructions.
- Fit, tack, weld, and assemble fabricated parts to specifications.
- Operate fabrication equipment such as grinders, saws, drills, ironworkers, and other shop tools.
- Inspect completed welds and fabricated products for quality and accuracy.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area.
- Follow all company safety policies and wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Report equipment issues, material shortages, or quality concerns to the supervisor.
- Work independently and as part of a team to meet production schedules.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Previous welding or fabrication experience preferred.
- Welding certification is not required.
- Ability to produce sound welds that meet company quality standards.
- Ability to read a tape measure and basic shop drawings.
- Mechanical aptitude and attention to detail.
- Dependable attendance and strong work ethic.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
Physical Requirements
- Frequently stand, walk, bend, stoop, and lift throughout the workday.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds on a regular basis.
- Ability to work in a manufacturing environment with exposure to heat, noise, dust, and welding fumes.
- Ability to wear required PPE, including safety glasses, hearing protection, gloves, and welding helmet.
Work Schedule
- Primary assignment is first shift; however, employees must be willing and able to work overtime as needed, including weekdays and weekends.
- Employees must also be available to work second shift if business needs require.
