What are the responsibilities and job description for the Outdoor Guide position at Forest & Tree Outdoor School?
Forest & Tree seeks qualified facilitators to work with TK-8 grade students from multiple schools in Oakland.
Outdoor Guides will be directly responsible for leading small groups of students and their family members on after school and weekend outdoor activities that include:
- Weekend hiking in East Bay and other regional parks
- Learn-to-bike, learn-to-kayak, learn-to-rock climb
- Overnight Camping trips
- Social Media and Communications INTERN
Schedule: Scope of work to be completed between January-June, 2026.. Programs will take place on Wednesdays, and occasional Saturdays, and over some holiday break camps where school is not regularly in session. A specific calendar of dates will be shared as outdoor reservation bookings are able to be calendared.
Essential Functions

1. Facilitate outdoor education with ~20 “campers” per cohort
2. Work outdoors for 8 hours daily with enthusiasm with kids and families
3. Plan, design, coordinate and lead a meaningful outdoor learning experience
4. Communicate with families and help coordinate org-wide events
5. Collaborate with F&T team toward vision and mission

1. Strong communication skills in Spanish and English, written and spoken
2. Experience designing and facilitating experiences for TK-8 grade students

Physical Demands and Work Environment
This is a part-time job that will work in-person and mostly outdoors:
Ability to transport gear and equipment on field trips
Ability to navigate local travel
Ability to lift and carry materials for events up to 30 lbs.
Specific demands of the activities of rock climbing, kayaking, biking and outdoor activities.
Position Type, Hours and Benefits
This is a part-time role. Days and hours of work are typically Wednesdays, 12:30-5:30pm, occasional Saturdays, 8am-5:00pm, with occasional holiday break camps that take place Monday-Friday. Must be able to attend planning meetings prior to facilitating events. This position does not currently offer health benefits. The rate of pay will be hourly range from $19-$25/hourly.
