THE ROLE
Forest Ridge seeks a talented, passionate and engaging Upper School Physics teacher to teach 9 th grade Physics along with Physics II. This position is .7 FTE.
At Forest Ridge, girls will think like scientists, do science, and see themselves as scientists. Every day, our program is skills-driven, inquiry-based, and hands-on. Class time centers around authentic experiential learning opportunities, where students are encouraged and expected to actively engage in scientific inquiry skills and practice good scientific habits of mind. They are invited to both zoom in to important details and to think big as they take a deeper look at life’s mysteries and conundrums. A student’s science experience will help her grow as an innovative and globally-minded leader who believes problems have solutions and who understands her actions and choices have impact beyond herself. Throughout her time at Forest Ridge, she will have full exposure to life, physical, and applied sciences. The science curriculum gives students opportunities to individualize their program of study by offering second level courses and electives. This curriculum encourages students to be women who can reason critically based on evidence, approach complex problems with confidence, and make choices based on a deep respect for, and understanding of, natural systems.

TEACHING AT FOREST RIDGE

- The entire Forest Ridge experience is designed to support the growth of girls, particularly in the academic and leadership spaces more traditionally held by boys.
- The curriculum at Forest Ridge has been developed and updated by the faculty who teach it.
- Forest Ridge teachers work collaboratively across disciplines and grade levels to integrate learning experiences for students.
- The Sacred Heart Goals and Criteria guide faculty and staff in their interactions with families and colleagues.
The Upper School Science Teacher, reporting to the Director of Upper School, will join a collaborative department of colleagues to build a creative, engaging and student-centered learning environment, employing best practices for educating students in an inclusive setting. Specific responsibilities for this position include:
- Teach two sections of 9th Grade Physics and one section of the Physics II sequence;
- Teach in our immersive program;
- Provide support for students outside of class time (answering homework questions, providing extra writing help, etc.) as needed;
- Actively collaborate with colleagues to design curriculum, assessment and instructional practices in alignment with best practices to create innovative and equitable learning experiences for all students;
- Attend content team and faculty meetings as scheduled;
- Participate in the life of the school community by attending school assemblies, divisional gatherings, school events, etc.;
- Attend and respectfully participate in communal prayer and other faith services.
A successful candidate for this position will meet the following requirements and qualifications:
- Experience teaching Upper School Physics courses;
- A bachelor’s degree in Science or a related field; master’s degree is preferred.
- A personal understanding of and commitment to the Goals and Criteria of a Sacred Heart education;
- A commitment to working in a girl-centric environment, designed to support the development of competent, confident and courageous women ready to lead in a multi-cultural world;
- Prior experience working with a diverse population of students and colleagues;
- A demonstrated commitment to culturally responsive pedagogy, including an understanding of themselves and the lenses they bring to interactions, as well as the differing perspectives of others;
- A commitment to teaching the whole child;
- An ability to work and communicate well with faculty, staff, students and parents;
- Part-Time: $41,319.60 - $78,771.70
