What are the responsibilities and job description for the Lead Accountant position at Forest Products Distributors?
Forest Products Distributors is hiring a hands-on lead accountant role to report directly to the CFO. The role covers day-to-day accounting, financial analysis, sales commission and national retail account work, reconciliations, and management reporting across multiple entities.
This is a detail-heavy role for someone who likes working in the data, fixing discrepancies, and improving processes—not a pure oversight job.
Duties
- Partner with the CFO on accounting, analysis, reporting, and special projects.
- Perform AR, AP, and general ledger work, including journal entries, reconciliations, and accruals.
- Support month-end and year-end close.
- Analyze, validate, reconcile, and enter data for sales commissions and national retail accounts.
- Build and maintain excel reports, schedules, and analytical tools for accounting and management.
- Work with large datasets from multiple systems to find discrepancies, trends, and process improvements.
- Handle QuickBooks for subsidiary and affiliated entities: entries, reconciliations, journal entries, and reporting.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- 5 years of progressive accounting or finance experience preferred.
- Solid experience with GL, reconciliations, journal entries, AP, and AR.
- QuickBooks experience strongly preferred.
- Multi-entity or subsidiary experience is a plus.
- CPA or similar designation preferred, not required.
- Distribution, wholesale, manufacturing, or building materials experience is helpful but not required.
Advanced Excel is required. You should be comfortable with large datasets and use:
- PivotTables and PivotCharts
- XLOOKUP/VLOOKUP and INDEX/MATCH
- SUMIFS, COUNTIFS, and related formulas
- Data validation, reconciliation, filtering, and sorting
- Conditional formatting and recurring report builds
- Importing and organizing data from multiple sources
