JOB GOAL:

 

To help students facilitate learning through the use of music and establish and maintain instructional goals and objectives, according to the Little Rock School District’s Music Department.

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

This position is Nine and one-fourth (9.25) month contract (190 days), plus a benefits package. NOTE: Precise placement within the salary range will be determined based on experience and LRSD’s salary placement guidelines. FLSA: EXEMPT.

 

TEACHER SALARY SCHEDULE

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. A bachelor’s degree in music education, master’s degree preferred.
  2. Must have Arkansas certification in appropriate grade level Music. 
  3. Evidence of piano pedagogy and piano skills necessary for student performances. 
  4. Evidence of skills in the area of classroom management. 
  5. Evidence of strong interpersonal skills. 
  6. Evidence of a strong commitment to quality desegregated education.

Such alternatives and additions to the above qualifications may be deemed appropriate by the Superintendent. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may require.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

The following statements of duties and responsibilities are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by individuals assigned to this position.   1. Evidence of the ability and willingness to successfully integrate the PLTW curriculum where feasible for PLTW Launch.
  2. Embrace the K-8 school configuration and best practices with high expectations and promote student success while adopting a student-centered focus that allows students to grow socially, emotionally, physically, and academically.
  3. Supports the vision and mission of JA Fair Preparatory School by working collaboratively with the administration and ALL staff to create a positive, safe and kid friendly learning environment.
  4. Demonstrates strong work ethics, a passion for creativity and always open minded to new and innovative ideas.
  5. Participate and successfully complete the required Project Lead the Way June 7-10 (PLTW) and The Leader in Me professional development beginning June 1-4 (LIM) and continuing throughout the school year, both on and off contract.
  6. Provides music instruction through the choir.    
  7. To provide appropriate choir performance experience for students enrolled in the choir. 
  8. Provides reasonable music support for school assemblies. 
  9. Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students. 
  10. Plans a program of study that, as much as possible, meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of the students. 
  11. Prepares for classes assigned, and shows written evidence of preparation upon request of immediate superior. 
  12. Employs a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media, consistent with the physical limitations of the location provided and the needs and capabilities of the individuals or student groups involved.
  13. Strives to implement by instruction and action the district’s philosophy of education and instructional goals and objectives. 
  14. Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulation. 
  15. Assists the administration in implementing all policies and/or rules governing student life and conduct, and for the classroom, develops reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedure, and maintains order in the classroom in a fair and just manner.
  16. Attends staff meeting and serves on staff committees required.
  17. Performs other duties as assigned.

Mental Functions, Physical Requirements, and Working Conditions:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, go up and down stairs, operate foot and hand controls, use a telephone and write. Occasionally the employee must lift and/or move up to twenty (20) or more pounds. This position requires accurate perceiving of sound, near and far vision, depth perception, handling and working with educational materials and/or objects, and providing oral information. Must have the ability to work for the duration of the daily contracted time period, and to be physically present and at assigned work, with only infrequent unexcused absences, during the contract year. Additional technical skills, knowledge, and abilities may be recommended by immediate supervisor and approved by the Human Resources Director.
