Position Summary
The Lead Baker is responsible for overseeing daily bakery operations, ensuring high-quality production, supporting team members, and maintaining a well-organized and efficient working environment. This role requires strong baking knowledge, leadership abilities, and exceptional organizational skills. During peak seasons, the Lead Baker plays a key part in maintaining consistency, quality, and smooth workflow for the entire bakery team.
Key Responsibilities
Production & Workflow
- Create and maintain daily prep lists for the bakery team.
- Delegate tasks effectively to ensure timely and consistent production.
- Oversee the quality, consistency, and presentation of baked goods.
Team Coordination
- Support and guide bakery staff with clear direction and positive leadership.
- Track and monitor employee times, including:
- Breaks
- Meal periods
- Clock-in / clock-out accuracy
- Communicate effectively with the Bakery Supervisor to ensure smooth operations.
- Scheduling will be handled by the Bakery Supervisor (Monique), unless additional support is requested.
Inventory & Ordering
- Manage bakery inventory to maintain proper stock levels.
- Handle all bakery-related ordering independently, ensuring ingredients and supplies are available as needed.
Safety & Sanitation
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized workspace at all times.
- Uphold all food safety, sanitation, and cleanliness standards.
- Ensure equipment is properly used, cleaned, and maintained.
Qualifications
- Previous professional baking experience required; leadership experience preferred.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Ability to delegate tasks and guide a small team professionally.
- Excellent attention to detail and consistency.
- Ability to work independently while supporting team goals.
- Positive attitude, strong communication skills, and reliability.
Physical Demands
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, sit, and use hand, arm, and finger dexterity to operate kitchen equipment and tools.
- Requires heavy physical work, including lifting, pushing, or pulling objects up to 50 pounds.
- Requires visual acuity to read recipes and measurements and the ability to communicate clearly in person.
