Director of Technology

Reports To: Assistant Superintendent, Finance and Operations    

Schedule: 40 hours/52 weeks, Administrator

Salary: Commensurate with Administrator Agreement

 

Job Summary:  Provide leadership and direction in the development, implementation, and coordination of
the district’s technology operations, including budget, asset planning, procurement, and staffing.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree (computer science, information systems, or related field preferred)
  • Minimum of five (5) years of successful experience as a director, or supervisor/coordinator preferred
  • Minimum five (5) years of successful leadership in technology or a similar field
  • Ability to communicate effectively and relate positively with students, parents, other administration, and community members
  • Pertinent knowledge of current theory, research methods, and best practices in K-12 education
  • Comprehensive knowledge of hardware, software, application, systems, and network engineering

Essential Job Functions:

  • Collaborates with stakeholders to create a vision for how technology will support the district’s goals.
  • Provides leadership to support the integration of technology in instructional practices by collaborating with instructional leaders across the district.
  • Builds an environment of trust through open communication and transparency regarding decisions and their process.
  • Performs personnel functions (e.g., interviewing, evaluating, supervising, coaching, disciplining, directing, training, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining adequate staffing, enhancing productivity of personnel, and achieving department objectives within budget.
  • Facilitates the growth of technology staff through professional learning, knowledge sharing, and cross training.
  • Fosters a culture of excellent customer service and support for end users within the department.
  • Researches and recommends new technology hardware/software for the purpose of recommending purchases, contracts, and proper maintenance of technology operations.
  • Prepares a wide variety of written materials (e.g., bid specifications, correspondence, memos, reports, policy/procedures, budget, etc.) for the purpose of documenting activities, providing written reference, and/or conveying information.
  • Provides leadership, direction, and recommendations in policies, procedures, and/or actions related to District technology services for the purpose of providing direction for meeting the district’s goals and objectives.
  • Responds to emergency situations during and after standard hours for the purpose of resolving immediate concerns related to power outages, equipment failure, cybersecurity attacks, etc.
  • Performs other duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the district.
  • Consistent and reliable attendance

Work Environment:

The work environment characteristics described herein are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the functions of this position. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud to moderate. This position is frequently required to interact with staff and with the public, which requires courtesy and discretion. A professional appearance and telephone manner are essential. The successful candidate will be able to multitask and make independent decisions using sound judgment and discretion. Work may be performed indoors and/or outdoors.

 

Mental Functions:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to compare, analyze, communicate both orally and in writing, copy, coordinate, instruct, compute, synthesize, evaluate, use interpersonal skills, compile, and negotiate.

 

Evaluation:

In accordance with the Administrative Agreement. 

 

Terms of Employment:

The employee will remain free of any alcohol or drugs throughout his/her employment with the district as outlined in Board Policy #4210.
