What are the responsibilities and job description for the Optometrist position at Forest County Potawatomi Community?
Here’s what you’ll be doing:
- Performs tests and examines patient's eyes and vision, evaluating each component
- Analyzes and listens to the patient's description of symptoms, diagnoses the patient's eye disorder, disease or injury
- Examines patient for symptoms indicative of organic or congenital ocular disorders, and determines nature and extent of disorder or injury
- Performs various tests to determine vision loss
- Prescribes and administers medications, and performs procedures, if indicated.
- Directs remedial activities to aid in regaining vision, or to utilize sight remaining, by writing prescriptions for corrective glasses, and instructing patient in eye exercises
- Informs the patient of diagnosis and treatment needs and options in such a way that the patient understands and can make an informed decision
- Responsible for complete and accurate documentation of the patient’s ocular and vision diagnosis and treatment according to QI Standards and standards of care
- Contributes to a team effort and accomplishes related results as required
What you’ll need to be successful:
- Doctorate Degree in Optometry (OD); three (3) years clinic experience
- Current license to practice optometry in WI
- Knowledge of relevant drugs and non-pharmaceutical patient care aids and ability to prescribe dosages and instruct patients in correct usage
- Ability to exercise sound judgment in decision making, analyze medical records and prescribed protocol to formulate effective therapeutic treatment plans
- Ability to communicate technical information to non-technical personnel, and establish and maintain professional relationships with individuals of varying social and cultural backgrounds and with co-workers at all levels
- Must successfully pass all applicable background checks and drug screens
- FCP complies with all CDC vaccine and testing recommendations for healthcare professionals. Proof of immunizations is required and immunizations/testing provided upon hire.
Preferred qualifications:
- FQHC or Native American clinic experience preferred
