Location: Austin, Texas
Foresight Planning & Engineering Services, LLC is seeking a motivated new graduate or early-career engineer to join our Geotechnical Team as an Engineer-in-Training (EIT). This role offers an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on field experience, develop technical skills, and support transportation and infrastructure projects across Texas. You’ll work alongside a collaborative team committed to quality, integrity, and professional growth.
What You’ll Do
- Perform geotechnical field investigations, including soil borings, sampling, and site reconnaissance
- Coordinate laboratory testing programs and analyze soil and materials data
- Conduct geotechnical analyses for foundations, slopes, pavements, and retaining structures
- Assist in preparing geotechnical reports, design recommendations, and technical documentation
- Provide construction phase support services including field observations and data collection
- Collaborate with senior engineers, project managers, and clients
- Maintain clear, accurate records and documentation
- Meet all project-specific, stakeholder, and contract requirements
- Adhere to Foresight’s safety and conduct policies, PPE guidelines, and QA/QC procedures
- Follow applicable TxDOT, AASHTO, and related engineering standards
- Ensure compliance with all relevant federal, state, and local regulations
Work Split: Approximately 60% field (including overnight travel) and 40% office/hybrid.
Physical Requirements
This role involves frequent fieldwork and may include:
- Lifting, carrying, and moving up to 50 lbs. of equipment and samples
- Standing, walking, bending, kneeling, and working on uneven terrain for extended periods
- Working outdoors in a variety of weather conditions
- Traveling to project sites (both locally and across Texas)
- Safely observing site conditions and communicating in active construction environments
- Proper use of PPE, including steel-toe boots, hard hat, gloves, eye protection, and reflective vest
What We’re Looking For
Required:
- BS in Geotechnical or Civil Engineering
- Successful completion of the FE exam and active EIT certification
- 0–3 years of relevant experience
- Strong communication, teamwork, and organizational skills
- Willingness to perform both field and office work, including travel
Preferred:
- Familiarity with geotechnical software such as Slide, LPile, MSEW, Settle, etc.
- MS in Geotechnical Engineering
