About the Role:
The Environmental Health Specialist Intern is a 12-week, hands-on internship focused on developing foundational skills in environmental health and industrial hygiene through field-based project work and assessments. This internship offers an excellent opportunity to develop practical knowledge of environmental health and industrial hygiene while contributing to meaningful projects that help protect workers, communities, and the environment. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, dependable, eager to learn, and enjoys working both in the field and in a collaborative team environment. A positive attitude, strong work ethic, and willingness to take on new challenges are essential for success in this role.
Responsibilities:
- Conduct industrial hygiene field measurements and evaluations of air contaminants, noise levels, and other occupational exposure hazards using standard industrial hygiene and environmental health equipment and principles
- Assess environmental and occupational health conditions at a variety of sites by observing field conditions, reviewing records, conducting interviews, and performing sampling of chemical, biological, and physical agents
- Determine appropriate monitoring and sampling strategies and carry out sampling activities as required
- Perform noise surveys and develop noise maps to support exposure assessment and control strategies
- Operate, maintain, and calibrate industrial hygiene and environmental monitoring equipment
- Analyze and interpret monitoring and sampling data to identify exposure risks and develop corrective action recommendations
- Assist in the development, implementation, and review of compliance programs
- Prepare accurate and detailed technical reports summarizing investigation findings and recommendations for corrective actions
- Evaluate compliance with applicable federal, state, and local regulations, standards, codes, and guidelines
- Perform other duties as assigned
What You Bring:
- Must be at least 18 years of age at the time of application
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Enrollment in, or completion of, a relevant academic program in Environmental Science or a related scientific field is required or preferred depending on career stage, including:
- Current undergraduate enrollment in a 4-year program (e.g., Environmental Science, Biology, Chemistry, Occupational Safety and Health, or related fields), or
- Current enrollment in a graduate (master’s or doctoral) program in a related scientific field, or
- Completion of a bachelor’s degree or higher in a related scientific field for early career professionals
- Ability to drive locally to client sites and maintain a clean driving record
- Physical ability to stoop, kneel, climb, crawl, and access a variety of work environments to support field sampling activities
- Strong written and verbal communication skills for data entry, documentation, and reporting
- Ability to follow instructions, work independently in the field, and collaborate effectively as part of a team
Physical & Work Requirements
- Ability to lift and carry equipment up to 50 lbs.
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer for documentation and reporting
- Must be able to pass a background check
- Valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and current auto insurance

Pay for this position is based on a number of factors including geographic location, relevant knowledge, skills, and experience.
