In this role, you will be part of a dynamic international environment spanning the British Government’s extensive network across the United States and the United Kingdom, which includes the Embassy in Washington, the UK Mission to the United Nations, multiple Consulates, and other Government Offices—comprising over 900 staff and supporting the work of approximately 30 UK government departments and agencies.
As Digital Content Creator in the Communications Team, you will contribute to strengthening UK-US collaboration in creating, promoting and amplifying content to target our strategic and international audiences across all our digital channels.
Positioned within the Political, Economic and Communication Section reporting to the Head of Strategic Communications, you will work closely with internal stakeholders such as policy teams and senior leadership and external partners including US government counterparts and industry leaders. This role supports the UK’s broader strategic objectives in growth, security and soft power and offers valuable experience in international engagement and cross-government collaboration.
We’re looking for a proactive, collaborative, detail-oriented professional with experience in capturing and editing video and photo content and creating social media graphics. You will be working on prominent issues at the top of the news agenda, delivering engaging communications on foreign policy, defence, politics, trade and investment, culture, tourism, tech, AI and others.
The Digital Content Creator will create and deliver impactful photography, videography and graphics that communicate the UK Government’s key priorities.
You will need to create and deliver imaginative content that fits the UK Government’s wider priorities, often working at pace and to deadlines.
You will be asked to work closely with senior members of the UK Government including the UK Ambassador, visiting UK Government ministers and senior members of the defence forces.
Roles and responsibilities:
- Work closely with the Head of Digital & Head of Strategic Communications to deliver digital strategies.
- Deliver high-quality photography and videography in Washington DC for high-profile UK visitors as well as editing, distributing, and archiving material.
- Ensure the Embassy’s digital storage systems and processes are sufficient to retain valuable archive photography and videography for future use.
- Provide photo and video support to the wider embassy for use in internal communications, helping build the brand and community of the Embassy.
- Support events and receptions, often with VIP guests. Most of this work will be out of working hours.
- Regular monitoring and evaluation reports to measure social media performance.
- Collaborate with digital and comms colleagues based in the British Embassy Washington and our US network of eight consulates across major US cities on content creation, event promotion, ministerial visits and forward planning.
- This is a hands-on role that requires in-person working, based in DC.
Any other duties as assigned. The role will involve supporting events and other work outside of working hours (for which you will be compensated).

Essential qualifications, skills and experience
Essential on arrival:
- Intermediate to advanced levels and familiarity with IT, photography, videography, design and editing software.
- Demonstrated experience in a communications, media, public relations, or similar role.
- Strong organisational skills and time management.
- Experience working as part of a communications team.
- Experience and knowledge of the effective use social media platforms, digital tools and digital trends.
Desirable qualifications, skills and experience
- Experience of working with/for government bodies or the public sector.
- A degree in a related field (eg. Communications, Graphic Design, Visual Arts etc)

Core Hours/Hybrid Working:
While many jobs in the US Network are able to offer flexibility in terms of working hours, core business hours are 09:30 to 15:00 (in the local time zone) Monday through Friday.
Employees will be expected to work from office full-time during the first 90 days of employment. After this time employees may work from home no more than 40% of the working week, subject to operational needs.
