The Lead Server is responsible for overseeing dining service operations while assisting with meal preparation, tray service, and dining room setup in a senior living or healthcare environment. This role ensures adherence to food safety standards, infection control practices, and dietary restrictions based on residents’ individualized care plans. The Lead Server provides guidance to culinary staff, supports efficient service flow, and promotes a positive dining experience for residents, patients, staff, and guests.
Essential Functions And Duties
- Lead daily dining service operations, ensuring the timely and accurate delivery of meals to residents, patients, guests, and staff.
- Serve as a point of contact for culinary staff during shifts, providing direction, coaching, and support to monitor and maintain staff performance during meal service.
- Coordinate and oversee dining room setup, tray line service, and professional meal presentation.
- Ensure staff adherence to all resident and/or patient dietary restrictions, special diets, and portion control requirements.
- Deliver resident meal carts and maintain the proper setup and cleanliness of all assigned dining areas.
- Provide high-quality, restaurant-style table service to residents, fostering a warm, welcoming, and hospitality-driven dining environment.
- Take accurate food and beverage orders and communicate clearly with kitchen staff for timely service.
- Set, clear, and reset tables promptly, ensuring a clean, organized, and inviting dining environment.
- Support resident satisfaction by promptly addressing concerns and promoting a respectful, service-oriented atmosphere.
- Collaborate with team members for smooth and efficient service across all meal periods.
- Support special events, themed dinners, and community activities to enhance the overall resident experience.
- Assist the Cook with food preparation and service, adhering to all established procedures, guidelines, and regulations.
- Ensure the proper cleaning, sanitation, and stocking of all kitchen and dining areas.
- Accurately record temperatures for refrigerators, freezers, and food items as mandated by regulatory requirements.
- Wash and store dishes in full compliance with sanitation standards.
- Maintain comprehensive knowledge of all Federal, State, and community rules, regulations, policies, and procedures relevant to dining services.
- Responsible for acting in conformance with all facility and departmental policies and procedures including those relating to Human Resources, Code of Ethics and Business Conduct, Health and Safety regulations, Compliance requirements, Patient Rights, Confidentiality, and HIPAA. Responsible for acting in conformance with accrediting agency standards.
- Attends department meetings as required.
- Demonstrates accountability to accept responsibility for personal/professional growth and any required certifications/licenses, if applicable.
- Completes mandatory training and competencies annually.
