FIRE ALARM SYSTEM MECHANIC

Position Summary
Forefront Government Services is seeking an experienced Fire Alarm System Mechanic to support facilities operations at Fort Bliss. This hands-on position is responsible for inspecting, testing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing fire-alarm detection and suppression systems. All work must be performed in accordance with applicable federal requirements, NFPA standards, manufacturer specifications, and contract requirements.
The successful candidate will have experience maintaining commercial or institutional fire-alarm systems and be comfortable working independently in a regulated military environment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Inspect, test, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair installed fire-alarm and detection systems.
- Perform scheduled preventive maintenance and recurring system inspections.
- Diagnose problems involving fire-alarm panels, initiating devices, notification appliances, detectors, transmitters, circuits, and related components.
- Repair or replace defective wiring, devices, control modules, batteries, and other system components.
- Test alarm signals, supervisory signals, trouble conditions, and system communication functions.
- Inspect fire-suppression equipment, gauges, control devices, and associated system components as assigned.
- Maintain accurate inspection, testing, maintenance, and repair records.
- Document system deficiencies and recommend appropriate corrective action.
- Respond to service calls, system failures, and emergency maintenance requests.
- Coordinate work with facility personnel, subcontractors, inspectors, and government representatives.
- Maintain tools, replacement parts, testing equipment, and assigned work areas.
- Follow all safety procedures, installation requirements, and Forefront policies.
- Participate in after-hours, emergency, or on-call coverage when required.
- Perform additional facilities-support duties within the position’s qualifications and contract scope.
Required Qualifications
- Two or more years of experience installing, inspecting, maintaining, or repairing commercial fire-alarm systems.
- Working knowledge of NFPA 72, applicable National Electrical Code requirements, and fire-alarm safety standards.
- Experience troubleshooting fire-alarm control panels, field devices, circuits, and system communication issues.
- Ability to read wiring diagrams, technical manuals, blueprints, and equipment specifications.
- Ability to maintain complete and accurate service and compliance documentation.
- Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
- Ability to pass required background checks and obtain access to Fort Bliss.
- Ability to work independently and respond appropriately to time-sensitive system issues.
Preferred Qualifications
- Current Texas Fire Alarm Technician license.
- NICET Level II or higher certification in Fire Alarm Systems.
- Experience supporting military installations, federal facilities, hospitals, campuses, or other large institutional environments.
- Familiarity with multiple commercial fire-alarm manufacturers and system platforms.
- Experience working under federal service contracts or established preventive-maintenance programs.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, climb ladders, and work in mechanical or equipment areas.
- Ability to lift and carry tools, equipment, and materials weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying environmental conditions.
- Ability to safely perform work at elevated locations and in confined equipment spaces when required.
Compensation
The anticipated base-pay range is $ 33.44 per hour, depending on experience, licensing, certifications, and contract requirements. More experienced lead-level candidates may qualify for additional consideration. Applicable Service Contract Act wage and health-and-welfare requirements will be followed.
