Director of Marketing

Business Forecast Systems, Inc. Waltham, MA

Full-time · [Hybrid — 3 days onsite]

About BFS

Business Forecast Systems has been the maker of Forecast Pro® for 40 years — demand planning and forecasting software used by thousands of companies, from single-planner manufacturers to global enterprises, and embedded by OEM partners inside their own supply chain platforms. We're profitable, privately held, independent, and 14 mighty people strong.

In early 2027, we will launch Forecast Pro Cloud, a multi-tenant SaaS platform that runs alongside our established Windows desktop products. It's the biggest product move in the company's history, and it needs a marketing leader.

Your Role

You will own marketing at BFS — the plan, the budget, the agencies, and the results. You'll set strategy and then go execute it, because in the first stretch, you’ll be the person driving the full marketing function. As the business scales, you’ll have an opportunity to build a team and function around you.

For the right person, this is a meaningful step up in scope; you'll go from owning a piece of marketing to owning the whole function. You’ll likely arrive having run channels or programs extremely well inside a bigger marketing organization, and here you'll own the whole function: writing the positioning, briefing the agencies, holding them to their numbers, building the campaigns, and reporting the results. What you trade for that stretch is a small, senior team that has been selling forecasting software for decades, knows the buyer intimately, and will help you get it right. What you gain is a marketing function that is genuinely yours.

The growth path is real but not immediate. As the cloud business scales, we expect this role to build a team — realistically a first hire within 12–24 months, likely in demand generation or content. We're not promising a timeline we can't control; we're telling you the trajectory we're building toward and what would trigger it.

You'll report to the Chief Growth Officer.

Your first year

Launch Forecast Pro Cloud. Positioning, messaging, launch campaigns, websites, sales enablement, and the demand engine behind it — for a product that opens new opportunities with larger organizations. You'll do this alongside people who know this market cold and will be in it with you.

You'll also step into an established business that still needs to grow: our desktop products serve a steady stream of demand planners at small and mid-sized manufacturers and distributors. These customers remain a vital part of our business and must continue to be well supported as we launch.

What you'll own

Marketing strategy & planning (~25%)

  • Define positioning and messaging for a two-product portfolio serving different buyers — the solo planner escaping spreadsheets and the enterprise supply chain team.
  • Establish clear go-to-market strategies, including market segmentation, customer targeting and the resulting demand-generation priorities, differentiation against competing tools, and portfolio positioning strategies.
  • Develop buyer personas and segment-specific messaging in partnership with sales and product and translate them into campaigns with clear goals.
  • Develop and execute an integrated marketing strategy aligned with growth objectives and long-term business plans.
  • Own the annual marketing plan, budget, and quarterly priorities across both the desktop and cloud businesses.

Demand generation & agency management (~25%)

  • Partner with sales on lead scoring, routing, follow-up, and conversion so marketing-generated demand translates into pipeline.
  • Own the SEO strategy, including keyword strategy, on-page and technical SEO, content planning, and evolving search practices such as AI-driven search/AEO/GEO.
  • Manage our search agency (SEM and SEO) and our website agency — brief them, hold them to performance, and know enough to tell good work from expensive work.
  • Own paid search, organic search, and the content that feeds both.
  • Own email and lifecycle marketing, including prospect nurture, trial conversion, customer onboarding and activation, renewal, and win-back programs. Own outbound support: list strategy, sequence messaging, and the campaign infrastructure our sales team runs on.
  • Manage the marketing budget with a clear view of what each channel returns.

Product marketing & launch (~25%)

  • Lead the Forecast Pro Cloud launch end to end.
  • Build sales enablement — pitch decks, competitive positioning, ROI framing, objection handling.
  • Own the website as a primary conversion channel — including structure, messaging, user journeys, landing pages, forms, demo/trial conversion paths, and continuous optimization. Support pricing and packaging decisions with market and competitive input.

Content & demand education (~15%)

  • Own a content program that reflects how this market actually buys: educational, credible, and practitioner-focused — webinars, guides, case studies, and customer stories.
  • Turn our decades of forecasting expertise into content that generates demand rather than sitting in a resource library.
  • Manage our presence at industry events and conferences.

Partner & channel marketing (~10%)

  • Support reseller, Integrated Solutions, and OEM partners with co-marketing campaigns, sales enablement materials, and resources to help drive Forecast Pro sales.

What we're looking for

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, Business or a related field. An MBA or other advanced degree is highly desirable.
  • 5–7 years of B2B marketing experience, including ownership of significant programs or budgets and demonstrated success driving business growth and product expansion.
  • Demonstrably hands-on. You've personally written the copy, built the campaign, and pulled the report.
  • Hands-on experience with paid search, paid social, B2B websites, landing pages, and conversion optimization.
  • Direct experience working with agencies — briefing them, reviewing their work, and holding them accountable. You can open an SEM account and form your own opinion rather than taking the dashboard at face value.
  • Real demand generation results in a considered-purchase B2B environment with a multi-week or multi-month sales cycle.
  • Involvement in a product launch — ideally SaaS, ideally into an existing customer base. You don't need to have led one; you need to know how they work.
  • Strong writing and communication skills, this market buys on credibility, and credibility here is written, with analytical and financial acumen and experience managing budgets.
  • Comfort with marketing automation and CRM, and enough analytical rigor to defend a budget with numbers.
  • Appetite for the scope. This is more ownership than most people have had at this stage, and we're looking for someone who wants that.

Nice to have

  • Experience marketing technical or analytical software to practitioners in supply chain, operations, manufacturing, or distribution.
  • Experience marketing both a desktop/perpetual product and a SaaS subscription — including the transition between them.
  • Account-based marketing experience with tools such as Apollo, ZoomInfo, and partner/channel marketing experience.
  • Having worked at a small company, with a clear-eyed view of what that requires.

Why BFS

  • You own it. Not a channel, not a segment — the whole function, with the budget and the mandate. The scope and autonomy are significant.
  • A launch worth putting on your record. Taking a respected desktop product into the cloud market is a genuine marketing challenge, and the outcome will be visible.
  • A real product with real customers. Thousands of companies already run Forecast Pro. You're not manufacturing demand for something unproven.
  • Proximity to decisions. At 14 people, you're in the room where pricing, packaging, and roadmap get decided.
  • Room to grow into leadership as the cloud business scales.
  • Stability. BFS is profitable and independent — no runway anxiety, no layoff cycle.

Compensation & benefits

  • $140,000–$160,000 base, depending on experience, plus 10% target bonus
  •  Health & dental insurance
  • 401(k) with employer contribution
  • 3 weeks of paid vacation per year
  •  Flexible Spending Account
  • Long-term disability insurance

  • BFS is an equal opportunity employer. We consider all qualified applicants without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability, veteran status, or any other legally protected characteristics.
