Appeals Specialist (Legal Billing) – (Temporary/Part-Time) - Atlanta Office - Job Overview
FordHarrison LLP is seeking an Appeals Specialist to work part-time, for five months, assisting with the protection of the firm's revenue by managing and reversing insurance/client billing deductions. This is a temporary, part-time position – of up to 24 hours per week – through December 2026. You will collaborate directly with attorneys and legal assistants to retrieve, draft, and submit compelling appeal narratives. Your core focus is navigating major e-billing portals to ensure timely recovery of disputed legal fees. The position reports to the Client Accounts Supervisor, who will provide training to the ideal candidate.
Key Responsibilities
- Deduction Tracking: Monitor and analyze billing reductions and line-item adjustments from clients and insurance carriers within BillBlast.
- Notification and Narrative Retrieval: Notify the effected attorneys and the MRA of the deductions. Set proactive appeal retrieval deadlines with internal partners to ensure the appeal can be submitted to the external client/carrier prior to their set forth appeal deadline. Partner with attorneys and legal assistants to gather necessary justification for billed time in a timely manner. Use ExpertImage to retrieve missing documentation for expenses if needed. Work is focused on a “Highest Deduction Amount, Earliest Appeal Deadline Date” basis.
- Appeal Drafting: Write clear, persuasive appeal narratives that align with client billing guidelines and carrier protocols.
- Portal Submission: Upload and track appeals through e-billing platforms including CounselLink, Legal Tracker, TyMetrix 360 (T360), and Datacert, and more.
- Monitor the “ARNotify” Inbox: Keep the inbox up to date by using established folders and deleting emails unrelated to appeals.
- Weekly Check Ins: Report to Client Accounts Supervisor with updates on the week’s progress and any foreseen issues that may arise.
