POSITION SUMMARY
The Project Manager (PM) is an experienced, field-based leader responsible for delivering full utility construction projects or major scopes within larger programs. Typical work includes distribution rebuilds, substation construction, and transmission upgrades.
Project Managers operate with a high level of independence and lead all aspects of project execution—planning, safety, commercial performance, subcontractor oversight, and client coordination. This role requires sound judgment, strong communication, and a strong understanding of construction sequencing, quality control, and risk management. Success is measured by the PM’s ability to keep projects safe, productive, compliant, and commercially aligned from start to closeout.
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES
Project Planning & Delivery Oversight
- Develop project execution strategies, including work phasing, resource planning, and field methodology.
- Lead daily and weekly planning with crews, subcontractors, and internal stakeholders.
- Coordinate mobilization, permitting, material flow, and equipment access.
- Monitor schedule performance and lead recovery planning where needed.
Quality Assurance & Technical Compliance
- Develop project execution strategies, including work phasing, resource planning, and field methodology.
- Lead daily and weekly planning with crews, subcontractors, and internal stakeholders.
- Coordinate mobilization, permitting, material flow, and equipment access.
- Monitor schedule performance and lead recovery planning where needed.
Commercial Management & Cost Tracking
- Develop project execution strategies, including work phasing, resource planning, and field methodology.
- Lead daily and weekly planning with crews, subcontractors, and internal stakeholders.
- Coordinate mobilization, permitting, material flow, and equipment access.
- Monitor schedule performance and lead recovery planning where needed.
Safety & Environmental Leadership
- Enforce corporate safety policies and field-level job hazard procedures.
- Lead incident reviews, safety audits, and crew engagement in safety culture.
- Integrate environmental controls and expectations into work execution and subcontractor scopes.
Stakeholder Management & Reporting
- Lead project meetings with clients, Indigenous partners, EPC teams, and regulators.
- Deliver regular project updates to internal and external stakeholders.
- Act as primary liaison for issue resolution, milestone alignment, and commercial discussions.
- Coordinate between design, field leadership, procurement, and quality teams.
QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS
- 5–8 years of field-based project management experience, ideally within utility, civil, or industrial construction.
- Experience delivering projects in environments that require constructor-side planning, quality assurance, and operational coordination.
- Strong understanding of scopes of work, construction drawings, and contract deliverables.
- Demonstrated ability to manage subcontractors, track progress, and respond to changing site conditions.
- Proficient in tools such as Procore, SAP, MS Project, and standard cost control or scheduling platforms.
- Diploma or degree in construction, engineering, or a related technical or operational field.
- PMP, CET, or equivalent certification preferred.
- Effective communicator and team leader with strong issue-resolution skills.
- Willingness to travel and lead execution at remote or active job sites.
DEVELOPMENT PATH
Project Managers who consistently deliver results and demonstrate leadership across safety, quality, cost, and client engagement are positioned for advancement into Senior Project Manager roles, depending on project complexity and business need. Future scope includes full P&L ownership, resolution of commercial disputes, oversight of multiple workfronts, and navigation of regulatory and stakeholder environments.
