Overview:  

We are looking for a compassionate, detail-oriented Medical Coordinator & Handler to play a vital role in both the medical care and daily handling of our dogs. This position bridges clinical coordination with hands-on support—ensuring every dog receives the treatment, attention, and structure they need to heal and thrive. 

Key Responsibilities: 

Medical Coordination: 

Medical Coordination: 

  • Conduct initial health assessments for incoming dogs, including vital signs, behavioral observations, and medical history documentation. 

  • Coordinate and schedule veterinary appointments for procedures such as spaying/neutering, vaccinations, deworming, and specialized treatments. 

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date medical records, ensuring compliance with organizational and regulatory standards. 

  • Manage inventory of medical supplies and medications, placing orders as necessary. 

  • Liaise with veterinary professionals to develop and implement care plans for dogs with special needs, chronic conditions, or those requiring palliative care. 

Animal Handling & Daily Care: 

  • Provide compassionate and skilled handling of dogs during medical examinations, treatments, and daily care routines. 

  • Prepare and maintain kennels to ensure a clean, safe, and comfortable environment for each dog. 

  • Feed dogs according to individualized dietary plans and schedules. 

  • Perform laundry duties, including washing and drying bedding, towels, and other linens. 

  • Assist in the administration of medications, vaccinations, and other treatments as prescribed. 

  • Monitor and report on the health and behavior of dogs, noting any changes or concerns. 

  • Support enrichment activities and behavioral training programs to promote the mental and physical well-being of the dogs. 
     

Safety & Compliance: 

  • Adhere to PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) requirements at all times. 

  • Follow established safety protocols to protect staff, volunteers, and animals. 

  • Maintain awareness of and compliance with all organizational and regulatory safety standards. 

Communication & Coordination: 

  • Utilize Basecamp to post shift updates, behavioral notes, and incident reports in real-time or by end-of-shift. 

  • Check and respond to Basecamp assignments daily for shift updates, coordination requests, and communications. 
    Maintain and update systems for dog assignments, enrichment tracking, and medical observations as applicable. 
    Communicate professionally and comprehensively with trainers, enrichment specialists, and leadership to ensure seamless coordination. 
    Ensure all digital documentation is organized, timely, and accessible for staff and leadership review. 

Qualifications: 

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Veterinary Technology or a related field preferred. 

  • Licensed Veterinary Technician (LVT) certification is highly desirable. 

  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in a veterinary clinic, animal shelter, or rescue environment. 

  • Proficient in animal handling, with a focus on canine behavior and care. 

  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail. 

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities. 

  • Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays, as needed.  

 

Physical Requirements: 

  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds. 

  • Comfortable working in environments with exposure to animals, allergens, and cleaning agents. 

  • Capable of standing, walking, bending, and kneeling for extended periods. 

Salary : $28 - $32
