POSITION SUMMARY:

Responsible for supporting the daily operations of Childcare Programs, ensuring high quality service delivery, compliance, and overall program success. Key responsibilities include budget oversight, staffing support, curriculum implementation, purchasing and inventory management, and adherence to all childcare licensing requirements. This role also supports participation in state funded food programs, coordinates building maintenance needs, and maintains strong customer service standards. Additional duties include assisting with administrative policies and procedures, and contributing to the development, promotion, and continuous improvement of programs to ensure effective and sustainable operations.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Works alongside the Childcare Director to oversee sites and development of the programs, promoting the center to increase the areas that are served by communicating positive impressions of the Y mission, goals, and objectives to employees, volunteers, members, and the community at large in a variety of public settings.
  • Oversees facility maintenance to ensure cleanliness each day for all areas.
  • Assists in registration of childcare programs while also ensuring tuition is accurately billed, recorded, and collected and notifies the Childcare Director of collection problems.
  • Ensures sites are properly staffed and concerns are addressed accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Ensures agreements between the YMCA and other program partners are followed and all duties are completed in a timely manner.
  • Responsible for assisting with staffing of the programs to include recruiting, interviewing, orientation, training, mentoring/supervising and evaluating staff and volunteers in the performance of their respective roles and responsibilities.
  • Maintains a cooperative working relationship with all staff, volunteers, and members.
  • Ensures staff: adult-child ratios are always within limits.
  • Works with Childcare Director to evaluate center quarterly and provide support to staff to accomplish goals and objectives of the program and the YMCA.
  • Attends childcare staff and exempt staff meetings/trainings as required.
  • Certified and current in CPR and First Aid.
  • Successfully complete YMCA Childcare training.
  • Accepts and demonstrates the Character Development Values of Caring, Honesty, Respect, Responsibility, and Faith.
  • Actively participates and supports the YMCA Annual campaign.
  • Actively participates and supports YMCA events held throughout the year.
  • Creates and maintains staff schedules for Childwatch, finding substitutes or filling in for shifts as needed.
  • Regularly inventories materials and informs the Childcare Director of needed purchases.
  • Creates activities, communicates with parents, and leads special events (such as Parent's Night Out)
  • Oversees Teen Programming.
  • Oversees planning of birthday parties including staffing, materials, payments, and communications

SUPERVISORS AND ADMINISTRATORS WILL:

  • Follow employees and volunteers screening requirements and use screening instruments to screen for abuse risk.
  • Provide employees and volunteers with on-going supervision and training related to abuse risk management
  • Ensure there is a positive culture for responding and reporting for employees and volunteers
  • Provide employees and volunteers with regular feedback regarding their boundaries with youth.
  • Require employees and volunteers to adhere to policies and procedures related to abuse risk and prevention.
  • Respond quickly to policy and procedure violations using the YMCA’s progressive discipline policy.
  • Respond seriously and confidentially to reports of suspicious and inappropriate behaviors.
  • Follow mandated reporting requirements.
  • Communicate to all employees and volunteers the YMCA’s commitment to zero tolerance of abuse to youth. Report essential abuse risk management information to the board of directors.

SUPERVISORS AND ADMINISTRATORS WILL:

Adhere to screening requirements for Minor Employees and use screening instruments designed to assess for abuse risk.

  • Communicate to all Minor Employees the YMCA’s commitment to protect their youth from abuse.
  • Provide Minor Employees with ongoing supervision and training related to abuse risk.
  • Provide Minor Employees with regular feedback regarding their boundaries with youth.
  • Require Minor Employees to adhere to policies/procedures related to abuse risk.
  • Respond quickly to policy and procedure violations using the YMCA’s progressive discipline policy.
  • Respond seriously and confidentially to reports of suspicious and inappropriate behaviors.
  • Follow mandated reporting requirements.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must be at least 21 years of age
  • 3 to 5 years of childcare experience required
  • Bachelor’s degree in Early Education, Child Development, or related field preferred (or equivalent experience)
  • DSS or DHR approved childcare provider trainer certification a plus
  • Experience working with children of varied ages strongly preferred
  • Ability to supervise youth and serve as a positive role model
  • Ability to meet program goals and expectations

WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Frequent use of hands for administrative tasks, program materials, and technology
  • Ability to bend, kneel, crouch, and sit on the floor to engage with children
  • Regular lifting, carrying, or moving of supplies and program materials up to 20 pounds
  • Work may require extended periods of activity with minimal downtime
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
