POSITION SUMMARY:
This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. The Aquatics Coordinator at the Foothills Area YMCA is responsible for frontline work hours in the Aquatics Department and supporting all aquatics operations which includes but is not limited to lifeguarding, teaching and supervising swim lessons (group or private), and assisting in staff safety training as needed.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Responsible for managing schedule gaps and attempting to find coverage by reaching out to staff and supervisors as needed.
- In the absence of the Aquatics Director or Associate Director, responsible for supervision of all aquatics programs and operations at Walhalla Pool
- Inspect and ensure high standards of maintenance, cleanliness, and repair of aquatic equipment and supplies, including first aid supplies.
- Uphold and exemplify high standards of customer service.
- Test pool water temperature and chemical levels daily, reporting any concerns to the Aquatics Director and making corrections as needed.
- Instruct swim lessons and/or guard in the absence of a scheduled lifeguard or swim instructor as necessary.
- Support, uphold and follow YMCA policies and procedures.
- Answer member questions about the YMCA and its programs.
- Evening and weekend hours required, coordinate schedule with the Aquatics Director.
- Act as a Primary Responder in case of injury, accident, or illness.
- Report injuries and complete required forms.
- Assist aquatics orientation with all new employees.
- Exhibit a professional attitude at all times, which includes wearing appropriate staff uniform.
- Assist the Aquatics Director in planning and facilitating staff meetings and in-service trainings.
- Conduct safety drills as outlined by the Aquatics Director.
EMPLOYEES WHO DO NOT DIRECTLY SUPERVISE YOUTH WILL:
Adhere to policies related to boundaries with youth.
- Attend required abuse risk management training.
- Report suspicious and inappropriate behaviors and policy violations.
- Follow mandated abuse reporting requirements.

Adhere to job specific abuse risk management responsibilities.
- Maintenance employees and volunteers—ensure unused rooms and closets remain locked; routinely monitor high-risk locations (locker rooms and bathrooms, hallways, stairwells), etc.

Front desk personnel—ensure youth are properly signed in and signed out, ensures only authorized adults are allowed in the facility, etc.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- A minimum of 18 years old
- A current American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification
- A current YMCA Swim Lesson Instructor certification within 60 days of hire
- Must be able to communicate well verbally and in writing, be able to handle several functions at once, think in the abstract, solve problems, make decisions, be flexible, instruct, and evaluate

- Must be mentally alert to dangerous situations to assure all swimmers' safety.
- Physically and mentally able to respond to emergencies and administer CPR, Oxygen, and First Aid effectively.
- Physical mobility to properly use aquatic equipment to rescue a 200 lb. person
- Must be able to physically stand and sit for an extended period of time.
- Physically able to see, hear, and communicate clearly and be able to hear noises and distress signals in aquatic environment
- Able to read, write and perform basic math to complete daily chemical logs.
- Swim with proficiency and endurance for possible rescues.
- Must be able to communicate clearly with members and staff using Listen First skills.
